Apparently Alienware is offering these cards in their latest systems.

Well first of all, are they worth it? And second, if so, can we purchase them anywhere and switch out the intel cards in our M15x's for one of these bad boys? Here's a link to the spec sheet.

If you have 3 antennas in your system I guess it should work.

I just don't know where to get one. They seem hard to find at the moment. I saw the 1102 on eBay, but the 1103 can handle up to 450 Mbps through 802.11n, vs 300 Mbps with the 1102. That's really the only spec difference though, and in real-world use you probably wouldn't run across a situation where you would see the difference.

As far as I know Aikimox will get some soon, you should be able to get one from him.

Just PM'd him, and he sent me the link, here. I don't have the money at the moment, but whenever I feel like getting it I might. I've always sort of had iffy wifi and lag with this thing, maybe this will help.

Yeah, $30 for shipping really makes the price go way up  Also, the WLAN card is located under the keyboard, so it takes a bit of teardown to get to, just so you know.

My 1102 card is better than my intel 6200 card, so I would assume the 1103 is better than the 6300.

    Yeah, but that's a $300-$600 upgrade. We're talking about a $60-$80 one ;)

And clearly it's not unnecessary, judging by the results of those who have installed them. It seems to actually improve wireless performance, as promised.

Could you provide more details about the improvement?

Take a look at your signature... you got the Intel 5300, so you got 3 antennas.

Because it's here now, $70, free shipping.

I installed the 1103 on my M17x-R2 to replace my Intel N-6300. So far, it is performing much better than the 6300. The pings are lower in both Speedtest.net and the game servers I normally play in. And most importantly, the connection to my router is MUCH more stable; I don't get random disconnects from the Internet anymore.

This is just from 2 days of testing it, but so far at least, I say it's better than the 6300 by a mile. It might have something to do with it being an Atheros chip (I've had better experiences with Atheros cards anyways).

Sorry people, I don't see or understand the point in upgrading to this at all! I have the Intel 5300 AGN and spec for spec it's identical to the killer.

    From the Killer site:
    Killer Wireless-N 1103 adapters support dual bands (2.4 GHz and 5GHz), 3-Stream MIMO and IEEE standards-based 802.11a/b/g/n in a half-size mini-PCIe form factor. Killer™ Wireless-N 1103 adapters support industry-leading data rates up to 450 Mbps

    From the Intel site:
The Intel® WiFi Link 5000 is a family of IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n wireless network adapters that operate in both the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz spectra. These adapters, available in both PCIe* Mini Card and Half Mini Card form factor deliver up to 450 Mbps of bandwidth¹,² via features such as MIMO technology.

What the difference? Because I can't see any justification in paying good money to upgrade to something that does the same job.

Now that's a thread killer lol)
But apparently the latency is slightly lower on the killer 1103 card, which is nice if you do any online gaming. 450Mbps tho is only achievable with a good W-router and on an awesome broadband package which isn't that uncommon anymore.

I just installed a 1103 in my M17X R2. Played some BFBC2 yesterday and actually noticed a decrease in performance from my old stock Dell card. Ping times to server and in game were the same if not a little lower. If anything, I thought there would be a small improvement based on the traffic prioritization it does on your LAN. I was getting some mild stuttering and lagging all night on 2 different servers. I didn't have TCP No Delay checked, which may fix the problem. But as of right now, I don't see this being worth the $70 I spent on Ebay.

Have you removed the Intel Wi-Fi drivers and software before installing the killer? Also, did you run the Killer Network Manager?

You buy these cards for their network prioritizing software.
