    Hi again,

When it comes to antivirus there are huge collections around some are paid and some are for free. But the question is which one that is best for alienware m15x.

I had kaspersky previously and faced slow startup and lag in windows.

After re-installing my OS and no antivirus now. the startup is fast and no lags in windows. So this could be the kaspersky magic that blocks the beast to do his job ?

I have created a poll with some antivirus that i know. But if you think something that is great and not in my poll list please mention them in post.

But i'm looking for your suggestions and what antivirus you use. I'm looking for paid ones. But if you think free ones do greater than paid ones, please let me know them as well.

    Thanks in advance :)

Yep Microsoft security Essentials is great and probably the best free antivirus program. I use Nod32 which is amazing in my opinion.

I use Bitdefender, working pretty well in my opinion. Scans viruses out pretty well, and it has this neat "Game Mode" tool that enables itself when in-game, to avoid random antivirus pop-ups, etc.

Although the free AV solution is nothing new, I think that the days of paying for AV software are numbered with the inception of MS Security Essentials.

Either that or the existing manufacturers will be forced to offer something unique.

I've been using MSE and its the best free AV program I've used. Its very reliable and it updates regularly with Windows Update.

Panda Cloud Free Antivirus works well for me. Its not a resource hog, you do not need to worry about updates and best of all its free :)

    been using vipre antivirus.
i've become quite fond of it.

oh and i also switched from kaspersky. the slow boot and gmail bug forced me to seek alternatives before the year was out.

now my system feels as if i don't even have a virus scanner there (in comparison).

I'd used NOD32 for years and years. Since a few months I've installed MSE.

I must say, MSE works OK.
In some matters, NOD32 was better... but MSE is very good and light.

I personally would have steered clear of MSE.
Dennis labs put it at the bottom of the list when compared to other popular AV software.

But the better software is expensive, so you get what you pay for I suppose.
Hell I don't even use AV on my Alienware, only on my PC rig (Norton Internet Security 2011) which has an SSD, so startup times remain practically unaffected.
If I could open up my Alienware and install an SSD (and then install Norton Internet Security 2011) I would, but the stupid company I bought my M15x from put the warranty sticker on the service panel so I can't even open a single screw without voiding my warranty
