As the title says, I'm looking into getting an m15x this weekend,

it has a Intel i5-540m @ 2.53 GHz, 4 GB Ram, and an NVidia GeForce GT 240M.

    My Questions Are:
-How Much is this worth, what should i be paying for it.
-How good is the Graphics card and Chip by today's standard? (I've never had a gaming laptop)
-I See people are upgrading this thing, how much would it be to upgrade it at a reasonable cost, and how hard is it to change out the parts if you've never done it before?

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You For Reading.

I'm not too sure of prices, so I'll leave it for someone else to give an estimate, but because of the processor and graphics card, it shouldn't be too much.

The Graphics card wasn't great when it came out (low-mid range), so you'd definitely need to upgrade it if you intend to be playing at high detail levels at 1080p (or 900p, you didn't specify the screen resolution) - even a 5850M/5870M would be a big improvement - though obviously not the highest upgrades you could make, you would notice the difference.

When I got my M15x, it was my first time too - people on NBR are very helpful when it comes to questions, and will always help you out if you need to do anything, so just ask. The system itself is actually relatively easy to upgrade - however things like the graphics cards may have some issues, depending on where you buy them from or which systems they were made for. Again, NBR users will help you out with that.

I recently purcahsed my m15x for just under 500$. i3, 8 gig ram and a 5730 video card. I am now upgrading the CPU and GPU which is not going to cost me a ton of money. I am very happy with my AW, and whenmy parts arrive I wiill be even happier plus the support on this site is great. good luck

I would say anything between $500-$600
The processor won't slow you down on gaming, but the video card might require an upgrade.
Not that hard, also there are videos on youtube on how to disassemble it. A 460m is around $400 and a memory upgrade (to 8GB) would be around $50-$100 and your machine will run like a charm. You can get newer cards installed but it won't be officially supported by us.

    No problem. LOL

what ever that laptop may br worth i wouldnt pay anything over $450 for that config. best upgrade options would be the 920xm and 7970m which will be like $600-$700. You don't really need to get 8gb ram, unless of course you will actually use it. Switching parts is fairly easy, follow the manual and search 'M15x teardown' on youtube (its in 3 parts). For the cpu upgrade dont buy anything less than the 920xm, as for the gpu dont buy anything less than the 6970m/660m.
