I have been having a specific error with my computer for the past few months now and I have no idea how to fix this issue.

When I play any games that require graphics, I get a "Kernel driver mode XXX has stopped working and recovered". What this looks like is the screen goes black and then recovers. I thought it would fix if I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled new versions. I tried drivers from dell and drivers from NVidia. No luck still getting the error.

I ran AlienAutopsy and noticed several key failures. Specifically, my computer failed the "Shader Rendering Test" and the "Shader Rendering DX10 Test".

I have checked to see if the GPU was overheating, if there were any windows updates that screwed things up, and if there were something wrong with my fans. Nothing else is wrong. No virus's. Nada.

Are there any experts available that have faced this issue before. I have tried many many MANY of the solutions I could find on google. None of them worked. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance if you can help.

I used to have similar errors and BSODs. Did you update your BIOS to A08/A09? I'm on A08 with Nvidia driver 296.10 and those problems seem to have been completely eliminated.

I also would get those errors when I had the 260m graphics card. I had the latest bios, tried a few different drivers, did a clean install of windows, had Dell replace the graphics card twice, and I still got those errors. Finally Dell traded out my laptop for one with the 5850m graphics card, and I haven't had a problem since. If you're still within warranty , call Dell, if not try buying a 5850m card on ebay, or the nbr marketplace. Good Luck.

I would recommend you to reinstall windows or to run an AlienRespawn, if after those steps you are still having the same issue you can send us an e-mail to [email protected] including your service tag and phone number and we will get back to you as soon as possible, after the resolution please post it here so that the community is aware of the fix.

When I went to click on "Repair your computer" the following happened:

    1. A bar on the bottom said windows loading files
    2. Then the normal windows booted
    3. Then I logged on and there was no option to reformat

then the O.S may be corrupted, try the full reinstall and follow the drivers guide to install them.
