My M15X fan's start up at random times for a few seconds (5-10) and than shut down. It happens randomly like last night when I was downloading a file, I kept my computer on through the night and I was laying in bed when the fans suddenly came on for a few seconds. Sometimes I can even be browsing these forums and the fans may come on. I was wondering if this was a common problem? Should I be worried? Also, at times the fans may startup at fall blast until I get to my desktop where I can view my icons and background wallpaper. I'm currently on BIOS A08 and was wondering if the fan problem is common or not. Also, the fans on full blast through out startup is not everyday but at random days. Whats the easiest fix or should I contact Dell to have them replace something?

i think its normal. normally when i leave mine on over night just downloading stuff, i would turn stealth mode on, to keep it cooler so the fans won't turn on.

oh my! an actual use for stealth mode, who would of thought, hehehe

I don't turn on stealth mode unless I'm using my lappy on battery power so maybe. But as I was typing this, my fan came on and than shut off. I don't mind it just don't want to end up in serious trouble in a few months.

umm stealth mode does not work on battery. stealth mode is use when plugged in when you don't need all the power like when idling just downloading stuff or when you have a lower rated psu that can't supply enough power to run the laptop at full load.

Question: Does anyone experience their fans coming on at random? Usually when browsing the net or downloading?

If your fans are coming on for 10 or so seconds they could just be trying to cool off the CPU. When my CPU gets at 135F or sp my fans will rev up a little for 10 seconds then slowly slow down.

As for the fans staying on full blast I'm pretty sure that's a common problem. If you leave your computer on and warm up the gpu\cpu they will slow down after around 2 minutes (with my experience) or you can just do a power cycle.

What EvenlikeSteven means is that the fans suddenly comes on & goes off when he is just doing routine stuff like surfing or downloading. My own fans do not behave like that even if i am downloading large files, watching HD content,or left on overnight. Its weird that the CPU would be so taxed during such activities that would require the fans to suddenly come on to cool it,huh?

Only disc that came with my system was the windows 7 64-bit disc, should I just download the bios A09 off the dell site? Do I need to do more? Also, Shinob! is correct with what he said as some of the times I may not even be doing anything that intensive and they will just come on. For example: Browsing these forums, youtube, facebook, yahoo, etc.

I just PMed you regarding the BIOS update from Dell.Anyways,i understand that you are using a refurbished system,& if you are not in a hurry to use your M15x for work or study, might i suggest that you do a clean install? A clean wipe can get rid of most,if not all your problems. If fan problem still persists, then its time to call Dell.
Batboy has started a thread regarding clean installation procedures, have a look http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...er-install-order-guide-alienware-systems.html Meanwhile, maybe you want open up your system & use can air to clean out the fans? Who knows, might just be dust playing nasty tricks on your lappy.

I don't mind the fans, just don't want future problems on my plate with this. Can anyone confirm that they're is a chance that something might go wrong if this persists?
