    Hi guys,

    Got an M15X which has had Port spilt on it..

    Symptoms:
    -keyboard only half lights up, doesnt all work.
    -O/S Wont boot
    -sometimes freezes at bios

    Mobo = Fried..

    Questions, how much are new motherboards these days? also interested in a graphics card upgrade (260m a lil weak!)

    Pic below of port stain, going by the layout of the laptop do you think any other major components may be fried? I will be testing Ram and HDD of course.

    Motherboards are 180-220 on ebay.

    Hi Natalie,

    I emailed and got told $420, its a bit steep unfortunately, especially if they are $180 on ebay (no warranty I know)

    There's also a good chance your keyboard will need to be replaced too. I ran into this wonderful horror after coming home from work to a flaky laptop and after picking it up it soaked my hand in water. Amazingly the only things damaged were the 320 gig drive so I yanked a 500 from wifey's dead inspiron and the keyboard. oddly enough it lights up just fine but a chunk of the keys don't work. Should have a new one early next week. yay.

    If you need a new motherboard and a keyboard and looking at upgrading the gpu, well I just think you would be better off selling it as is on eBay and get a new system.
