    Hello all,

I have an Alienware m15x with a core i7 720qm and 260m graphics card. About a year ago the battery died, completely quit charging. (Not a problem I only play games at home). Then about a month ago my computer crashed, completely cut off right in the middle of playing a game. The computer didn't seem to be abnormally hot or anything. I assumed dead Motherboard. I replaced the motherboard with a 0G5VT 00G5VT CN-00G5VT 40GAB3900-A400 that I purchased from EBAY, the motherboard looked to be in amazing brand new condition. I know the original mobo was the same model but ended in A100, but I was told by several people that those were just firmware revisions and didn't matter as far as compatibility goes. Still no post. I then replaced the CPU with another i7 720 qm I purchased again through ebay. Still no post. I then replaced the memory with 8 Gigs of brand new DDR3 from Bestbuy. Still No Post.

The Computer when I plug it in, the alienhead power button lights up like normal, as does the alienhead on the lid. But Once I push the power button, I get nothing at all, those lights cut off and nothing happens. I have tried this with my old mobo and my new mobo, as well as with my old processor and new one and all other combonations of those two. I am not concerned at all about replacing the battery unless I have to. But I would really like the computer to work again. I am now 500 dollars into this computer repair. I'd like to not spend anymore money than I have to. Any help on what to do next/what to buy next would be helpful. Thanks

Could be the graphics card has died and is shorting the whole system. Could also be your SSD/HDD or a problem with your power jack or PSU.

Thanks for the replies, between the two, I would think Graphics card, I've used another power brick that I know works from my GF's computer and it still wouldn't work. I'll probably end up buying a graphics card from ebay in the next day or so, I'll keep this updated, if anyone has any other ideas, let me know.

    Thanks again

This 6970m could be a good option depending on your budget Alienware Radeon HD 6970m | eBay
I hope it is the graphics card that is the problem. What laptop does your GF have? Could you steal her gfx card to see if that is the problem?

That is an amazing card, a little more than I'd like to spend, but it's well worth it for what it is. Sadly someone else bought it before I saw what you had posted. Either way, ordered a 460m, should be here in 3 days. I can't try my girlfriends card, her computer isn't anywhere near the same, just happens to both be dells with the same power brick. Thanks for the posts, I appreciate it.

Thanks for all the help guys, the computer is WORKING! it was indeed the graphics card. Kind of scared myself when i hooked it all up and turned it on and it gave the flashing code for bad video. Thought the card was doa, luckily I had just incorrectly connected the LCD. Thanks again

Lol, always kind of annoying but relieving when it's a simple fix.

Connecting up an external monitor is a good way of ruling out a bad internal cable in future.
