The M15x has very limited options in the UK - noticeably that the 1920x1080 panel is not an option, etc.

Indicating that they are just depleting stock of the M15x, for the M14x's arrival.

Dell US only has the m15x with all cpu's and only the 5730 gpu. I hate to say this but I guess our line is coming to an end. It's sad.. makes me sad a bit...

That's right, we paid all this money for FAIL!

Oh, does this mean this lovely little forum is going to be discontinued too?

No way, we shall solider on, after all, where will people turn to in the next few years if something goes wrong with their computer? And this place will be for people brave enough to try unsupported parts.

Don't feel bad just because a new model is being released. I ordered my M17 literally days before they officially announced (and opened for orders) the 'All Powerful' M17x (now known as the M17x R1). Does that mean I regret it? Hardly, my laptop still performs fantastically, and I still love it. (And, it was significantly cheaper than I would have had to pay for a more powerful M17x)

If you've got your M15x with one of the later GPUs (5850, 460GTX) then the M14x won't have more graphics power in any case. It's hardly going to outpace your M15x.

OT: Definitely looks like they're preparing to release the M14x. I can't wait to see reviews for it. If I can scrape together the funds, might consider one, but my wallet's empty right now...

Or, possibly, the M15x sub-forum will be moved to the 'legacy' sub-forum that's currently open.

    Ditto.

Well what's the likelihood, that if the M14x comes out, I can convince Dell to switch my M15x with the M14x? Assuming the M14x is decent. Although it will never have the same power as the M15x.

Not sure what people are sad about. I for one love this laptop. It's my 3rd Alienware and it's easily the best as far as build quality and performance, and the 1080p screen is easily the best screen I've owned on a laptop. So it's being discontinued...all laptops eventually get discontinued. The M14x is a different laptop all together and should not be compared to the M15x anyway (soldered on GPU, battery under the bottom panel like the M11x, etc.) The M17x-r3 is supposedly the successor to the M15x but it's plagued by some quality issues (peeling paint, keyboard flex).

BTW,there's already a review for the M14x, but it's in Chinese.

How old is your M15x? If you've purchased it recently and you're still within the returns period, you could return it and reorder an M14x (I think they waiver the restocking fee if you order another system).

Apart from that...no, you've got no chance.

I don't consider it EOL until the 6970 is considered obsolete =D

Still waiting to see if the Clevo one performs well. It's sad to see the M15x go. It's size is perfect for me and it's power was the best a single gpu could offer.

Ahah, yep we will be merged with the Legacy sub forum D:
But I think it is for the best, besides the plastic lid, the M14x looks very promising, and being thinner and lighter will be useful for the student I am!

Still loving my M15x though :D

Not really a downgrade, or at least not a significant one. We still don't have hard benchmarks for the 555M but in the M14x it should perform around the same sort of level as the GPUs offered on the M15x (probably closer to the 260M/280M).

    Handcuffs wrist to M15x forum

They'll never move me! But in all honesty you guys are right. As long as theres still a healthy population of owners willing to try new things and a fantastic web of support for people in need of advice, I think we'll be just fine. Dell can drop it but as long as there are people here to hold the line then the M15x will never truly be finished. Let's just hope that new M14x isn't tempting enough to turn brothers from our noble path!

If this M15x forum has to be moved to Alienware Area-51/Aurora and Legacy Systems, I hope that this forum is placed as a subforum within the legacy forum. Otherwise, with all of the posts placed together, it would be difficult to locate M15x-related threads.

I still and will love this laptop. I hope there will still be support for it. Anyway, never going to accept M15x ->M14x offer. Thats a total shameful downgrade for me. I now am a proud owner of a limited created item, a legend called M15x (how many in the world own it???).

And, in malaysia, no more 5850 option, its only Nvidia 460. Glad i took it early.

Lol in Canada we never got the option for GTX 460m for some reason. We used to have GTX 260m, 5850 and 5730. Now only 5730 remains which kinda makes it less of a gaming laptop.

I have a feeling many M15x's are going to be around for quite some time still along with their owners.

I just got mine around a month ago and a 920/940 OC'd + 460/5850/5870/6970 will easily trump an m14x while the m17x r3 has an even larger footprint not everyone wants in addition to what some have said is a decrease in overall build quality.

Of course the m18x is going to be very interesting :p , however, just because a system is at it's EOL hardly means it's obsolete.

Case in Point: I just recently got a great deal on a Vaio TZ190N - late 2007 11in notebook, Throw a new battery on it, OC the ULV C2D + graphics and you have a very thin 11in notebook under 3lbs with a DVD-RW drive and components that still put many netbooks to shame. Can't play games on it, however, that's why I have an m15x /desktop :p

The M15x is most likely going to remain the most powerful 15in Dell will ever make for quite some time, and just because the product is EOL doesn't mean it magically slows to a crawl and demands to be put away/sold

Obviously I'm looking to the future hoping Alienware continues putting out great products, however, the "It's all over" attitude some people seem to have come a few years too early :)

The M17x R3 is just as big and heavy as the M15x and for the lover of smaller screen the new M14x will be a good solution as well.
It's all about marketing, a M15x would make no sense in their line-up.

...I don't know why what you guys are so sad about.... WE own the best gaming 15" laptops ever released and we'll always have it with us,right? As far as warranty is concerned, Dell is bound to give us a service or it's Whole Unit Replacement for us...may be a M17x for a M15x because M14x would be a total freaking DOWNGRADE...!!! I know this is at least what Dell India would do... I give them 6 out of 5 stars for system replacement deals.. LOL

    Peace
