7970 is plug and play, just make sure you get right size thermal pads and good thermal paste. For heat sink use screws from nameplate after removing old screws from heat sink by removing c-clamps.

Might also want to search for svl's bios mods and flash 7970 to .950v at stock, so it runs cool without throttling. Also watch the temperature, at 85c m15x will shut down without warning.

All this is super easy to find if you can scroll down and see how others have installed 7970 in there m15x.

    Many thanks for responding :),

I saw alots of forums but no one purchase it from a m17x r4 model. every one just bought on upgrademonkey and other "web shops".
Where can i buy thermal pads ? I ask to upgrademonkey and they charge me with 30€ (shipping included), Eurocom was even worse 50€.
And about thermal paste, some people prefer artic other diamond, i just use one from a local store"titan-nano grease".
Oh before i forget, my CPU is 740qm is that ok or should i upgrade ?

    Thanks for the help :)

I used the one from M17xR4, with dell there is pretty much only one version of the card (so far what I have seen) and its plug and play across the board (M15x/M17x/M18x/etc).

Just use a decent thermal paste and minimal amount of it, I used tenth of a water drop and it covered the die completely. Make sure there is enough pressure on the die from heatsink, I found nameplate screws to be perfect, obviously the original screws need to be removed from heat sink (you are allowed to curse as much as you want, while removing c clamps, and it does help ;) )

I am running 940xm and no thermal throttling unless I run fraps, with games its all good, mostly play BF3 and Civ5 :)

Thanks vs3074 i think it will arrive on Monday :D i think with my 740qm wont have throttling problems since it uses less power consumption than 920xm for exemple. Where can i buy 920xm CPU or 940xm Cpu for a fair price ?
