Hi peeps, looking for a bit of help here. My laptop has power but won't turn on via the power button. Now I've opened it up to see what the problem is, personally I think its this little cable that connects to my mobo which seems to be damaged. Just wondering if anybody is sure that it is this or thinks it could be something else and if it is the cable then where can I buy a new one from. Preferably in the UK. Thanks/

Few images here, what do you reckon???

It could also be a loose connection on the cable that connects the power on button. The part marked CN 1. That little connector can be a real pain sometimes. I have have problems several times when the touch panel won't light up because of a loose connection. Reseating it fixes the problem. Perhaps try that and you M15x will have life once more.

Hi thanks, I though the same to be honest but looking at the cable in image one looked damaged under a light. Only a couple of the tine wires in the ribbon look connected. I suppose I could replace both but now the real question is, where do I get one from? I've seen the power button and connector replacement on ebay but not the cable shown in the top image.

If you can't find the part anywhere. You can always shoot one of the Alienware reps on here a rep and they can probably source the part for you.

desmond89 I've been having a browse on the internet for one. Apparently as long as the ribbon has the same pitch (the space between each pin) and the correct number of pins which is 16 for m15x I think then it should work. I've ordered one on ebay and it cost me about £8, lets just hope it works when delivered

If you need pricing info from DELL you can get it by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. Please add the issue, tag and phone number. This applies to US and CA but we can certainly redirect you on the right way and give you at least our part #'s.
