I'm pretty sure this has more to do with my upgrades, but I figure I'd ask first before immediately ordering the 240w brick.

I have an Alienware M15x with A09 BIOS that I've upgraded the RAM to 16Gb, and upgraded the video card to a GTX560M. When I first turn on the machine, I get the power adapter warning when BIOS goes through POST. Boot into Windows7, and the power indicator shows I'm running on battery and not A/C power. If I hotplug the power connector (disconnect/reconnect) then it will show I am on A/C power. Is this a problem with the brick and my mods? Will upgrading to the M17X 240w PSU resolve this? Thanks in advance for any input.

It could be that or it could be that it is just not connecting properly. Try re-flashing the BIOS and if not then try the other AC Adapter.

It is a bizarre issue, so I'm not sure. But, if I power down the laptop and let it sit overnight without moving it and power up in the morning, it will indicate it is on battery power. Strange, no?
