Threw my 1060 in my m15x before i put it in my m17x to see what would happen. The system posted and I could navigate the bios(by sound) but the screen was black. I tried connecting to an external monitor and It didnt output, but I didnt have the heatsink on the laptop so I didn't try too many things. If anyone has any ideas they want me to try write them down and Ill be happy to test them out.

It's important to tell us what M15X it is. I supsect your M15x is an LVDS machine, hence acting like this.

Theres only one m15x that can be upgraded with MXM afaik besides the old c2d one, but yes it is that one

Better than what I got with my zotac 1070 + m15x, the "internal edp to lvds converter" must be inop or just dummy option

Well, then there is your answer. The card doesn't support LVDS, since your M15x is an LVDS machine it won't work.

Im not asking for it to work, Its already working in the machine I bought it for. I thought id try it in here as noone else had tried it, and it posted compared to the 1070. If the system didnt detect the gpu it wouldnt post, which means it has to be detecting the 1060 in some form.
I think if the missing EDP connector was soldered on + an EDP panel installed you could get it to work. The X rev motherboard would be the far easier option but it doesnt seem like that is in supply anywhere

Uhm that is not correct. A system should post even if it cannot read the GPU. If anything the GTX 1070 is weird for not posting at all.

Also just because it can read the GPU doesn't mean it can use eDP signals. You won't ever get a picture on your screen unless you get some kind of hardware mod going that will translate LVDS to eDP, which if I remember, someone here did.

Nope, the m15x needs to detect a GPU to post.

My guess is the 1060 vbios dont have any form of analogue output because the machine it came in (vortex) only has HDMI and display port outs. Perhaps if there was a way to find if there was a vbios with some form of analogue output so it can display out via VGA atleast

exacly, doesn't mean it can read the GPU. So it can post with broken or unknown GPU.

    @ True Debreuil
As already stated, LVDS machine + eDP card = no image. I really don't know why you don't understand that.
Also the M390X didn't work because of obvious vBios issues, that card is made for IMacs, obviosly it has issues when it comes to communicating to your EC, same reason why AMD RX cards don't work in clevos.

pascal deprecated all analog signals, you will not find any vbios with one

    ask @Prema

It doesn't post with a broken gpu either. I have a broken 7970m and it fails to post. I understand it wont work without EDP, but this laptop has an EDP connector. there is a motherboard with this connector present, all that is needed is to find a panel. the fact that the 1060 posts shows that somewhere along the line it can read the EDP signals, it just has nowhere to output them too

You can try, depends how broken the AMD card was. I've seen tons of broken AMD and Fermi cards letting the M15x post but that's about it.

    Well you can try this:
Remove the LVDS connector so that your notebook is not connected to any screens. Connect an external monitor onto the notebook and try to boot again. If this doesn't work, it's unlikely the card will work even with an eDP panel.

m15x cant post without an LCD screen connected unfortunately

Ah right, I forgot only AW does this.

Well guess you'll have to get en eDP panel or drop the project then. There is no way you'll get pascal working on an LVDS system without a converter.

The card wouldnt post (7970m) until I baked it, but the best I got was an extremely artifacted output. After I baked it again it would only boot with no display and then it would not post after the 3rd bake. I have a semi broken 460m too, and that posts but the display out is artifacted and the card will shut down under any slight load.

Any Idea where I could obtain a 30 pin EDP connector for a motherboard. The pin out only has to be the "common" pinout of 2 channel EDP

ebay or aliexpress is your best bet for such things.

    maybe something like this

Not the cable, I mean the chip where you plug in the cable on the motherboard.

I'd say your best bet is get a broken motherboard, panel or someone who has contacts to chinese manufacturers. I don't think that the eDP connection on the M15x is wired tho, so even if you solder a connector to it, I don't think it works.

You can do some research on that before purchasing an eDP connector.

Someone on the forum actually has a board that has the connector on it and has been posting about it (i don't know if youve seen it) but I also made a post about soldering the connector and khenglish said which Resistors and caps need to be added. Everything is there Bios wise by the looks of it because there is options to use EDP. The trouble is just finding that connector

ask Khenglish about it, he should have some lead on it or even the connector.

So after doing a bit of search both the Dell m4500 and dell latitude e6510 both use the exact same panel as the m15x just the EDP version (30 pin too) so i presume if you were to get the parts for that laptop you could transplant the required parts into the m15x. theres a e6510 in the us for 8 bucks with a working LCD so anyone who wants to try this could do it for a low cost

For anyone who wants to add the EDP connector to the motherboard - I have found the exact one on aliexpress. It says LVDS but look at the connector requirement circled in the schematics and compare it to the EDP connector on the X rev motherboard and decide for yourself

Ah shoot. Missed that listing. If another comes up cheap I am willing to try the eDP panel swap.
