I have an Alienware M15x which is around 3 yrs old.

The battery is plugged in, but I am receiving a message as "Plugged in and not charging".

I ran HWMonitor to see the battery condition and it shows 100% Wear Level and Charge Level -2147483648.
    Current capacity 1mWh.

Does that mean the battery is dead and I need to replace it?

    Thanks.

Most of the time, the laptop is plugged in, I don't remember when was the last time the laptop ran on battery.

So wanted to clarify whether leaving a dead battery would have an adverse impact on the performance of the laptop or the life of the components?

It shouldn't cause any harm. But, if it isn't doing anything you could just take it out.

Does that mean the battery is dead and I need to replace it? or just change my AC Adapter
