    Hello there,

The rubber cushions which we have on both the sides of touch pad to protect the screen ( display ) it has gone. is there any way i could buy them separate from somewhere, just the rubber cushions alone. ?

I know i have seen this problem a while back here but couldn't find that thread.

    Please update me.

    Thanks

I think the extent of the last conversation was too cut out your own from a rubber armrest.... Other than regluing it or replacing your palmrest

I actually have never had this problem, but in the past i thought about pulling them off and adding some super glue myself to make sure they stay there

I've had my palmrest replaced three times because of it. I was told the second time that the rubber bits were held in by clips rather than glue, and would therefore be stronger. They lied.

If it's in warranty, just get it replaced. Might as well take advantage of the next-day premium warranty thingy.

This is the most annoying thing. I can't believe they haven't caught onto this and fixed it. If you are constantly moving around with your laptop and opening and closing it then I feel like you are bound to lose these little rubber things. I travel every single day of my life and I can't tell you how many times I've lost these things. I was somehow lucky enough to always find them but one day couldn't find the right one. So I made one out duct tape. It works I suppose but looks like . I even tried gluing the other one to ensure I wouldn't lose it but it won't stick for some reason. So I still have to watch out. But if anyone has lost one I recommend finding a temporary solution because I was missing one for a while and just had my laptop in my backpack and I guess from moving around my screen got scratched from rubbing on the mouse pad buttons. But yea.. if anyone has a better solution than duct tape let me know.

Has anyone tried filling the hole with hot glue or silicone gel?

How about using an online 3D printing service to make a replica of the knobs from ABS or an other plastic? Shapeways is such a service. Once you have a proper design you can upload it and it will be available for other users of Shapeways (and Alienware M15x's) to use. Shapeways | Materials

What do you guys think, I know off course this is not the cost efficient way but I think it can be also of use if you need a whole set of replica feet for the bottom base for a typical laptop. I do not have proper knowledge of the material properties and if something like ABS, PA i.e. is safe to avoid scratching, maybe others can respond.

I have have glued the knobs with super glue, after coming off several times. So if you still got them I think that is the best way. The super glue I used is a thicker gel substance that lets you adjust / correct the placement of the material for about an minute before it hardens.

I got mine off, lucky to find it on the ground (realised pretty quick) and i had read on previous thread about it. I used super glue on them and they hadn't budged since then. Best way.

This is a problem on most laptops that have rubber pads in places like this. One of the first things I did with mine, was to peel them off (just apply pressure sideways to them, and they come right off).

Make sure the little membrane that likely remains on the bottom is taken off (and do not attempt to clean with acetone or any other solvent - it'll dissolve the rubber as well).

Apply standard super glue carefully, and replace them. With minimal ninja skill and patience, you won't get any glue on the palm rest.

I also highly recommend cutting a 50cent wash cloth to fit between the palm rest+keyboard and screen when the lid is closed. This will keep your laptop's display in mint condition through the ages of time.

On a similar note how about the rubber feet on the backplate below the laptop. I found out that I've lost one, any suggestion as to find a replacement?

    Thanks

Your best bet is going to be to buy an entire bottom plate or wrist rest if you want an actual pad again. I have spoken with Dell and they do not sell them seperately. The only other option is to make one out of something. I suggest hot glue or silicone caulk.

Lost both of mine in the palm rest within the first few months, annoying but doesn't seem to have had any bad effects.

thanks for the tips, the only one of the 6 left on my m15x is the front left bottom one lol. and its half off. Already had my palm rest replaced once. And by the sounds of it they would have to replace my whole computer to get new ones for the bottom. stupid system.
