Hi guys - I've just recently purchased the M15x. Everything on this laptop is wonderful apart from the wifi !!!! i've fiddled around with all the settings on device manager and got nowhere.

My problem is that it runs soo slowly and sometimes (not often) loses connection alltogether and then reconnects. It basically makes online gaming impossible. This shouldn't be happening as my previous 3 laptops have been positioned exactly where this one is in relation to the SAME router.

Please help me if you can i am considering refunding the laptop as the internet is rubbish for even streaming youtube video's normal quality.

    Thanks in advance

    Mark

It soulds like a bad wifi card. I have had this 5300 card in my previous computer that was a m15x. In my current computer (the m17x in sig and avatar pic) I have the 6300 card. Never had any issues at all.

What you should do is to contact Dell and make them replace that wifi card. They will probably replace you with the 6300 card, as the 5300 card is long gone from their stock.

I have a 5300 and no issues at all.

It's probably the card, but, to satisfy your curiosity why not take it somewhere else and use someone else's wireless router to see if you get similar performance. It might be that you can sort your issue out by upgrading the firmware on your router, or even setting your router to broadcast on a different channel.

    Thanks for ur reply.

I have upgraded my firmware...and tried it on all channels - it's still the same :(

If i plug my laptop into the router with an ethernet cable then it runs perfectly...just the wireless thats the prob. And yes ive tried it on other routers and its the same :(

Im on "upto 10mb" broadband with Virgin Media. Other wireless systems in the house get 4mb download on speedtest.net anywhere in the house. mine gets between 0.5 and 1.5 :( Plugged in it gets 8-10

You have proven the problem to be with the card in that case.

Have confidence when you ring Dell that you've troubleshooted the problem in a logical way and I'm sure you'll be getting a card replacement very soon.

I wouldn't worry about what speed you're running at (802.11b/g or n) since you're obviously connecting, albeit with poor results. If there was an incompatibility issue you just plain wouldn't be able to connect.

Connect with a cable, then ring dell and get them to try and connect your laptop to the wireless and see for themselves the poor performance. Explain that it happens on all routers you connect to.

When i connect with the cable i get near full speed ! between 8-10mb download. My old laptop and other wireless networks in the house get 4-5mb download....this M15x 0.5-1.5 :/ and it's now starting to disconnect frequently ! very annoying.

Thanks for all your replys - I've actually requested a full refund as to be honest the M15x has disappointed me on the whole. Thinking of getting an 11x in a month or so.
