Ok well I had tried the 8970M and I got max fan speed within a few seconds of turning it on, and now I tried the 780M and it also has the full fan speed, plus the added bonus of 2 bit colors and a hazy screen. wtf is going on. The 8970M did not have this problem and the original 5730 mobility has no issues at all. I'm so confused as how to get any 1 upgrade card working in the M15x.

Use (DDU) Display Driver Uninstaller to wipe your drivers, then install the new card.

Are you using the unlocked A9 bios?

Have you seated the cards properly in the MXM slot and are you using the correct backplate for the card? Is anything touching any of the capacitors on the back?
Is the heatsink applying sufficient pressure on to the GPU die? The C-clip screws that come with the heatsink are not long enough to apply sufficient pressure to my 7970M so I had to buy longer screws.

The Max fan speed issue is due to the vBIOS and/or vendor. If it is a clevo card then I don't think the 8970M will ever have proper fan control. You'll need to use hwinfo64 to manually control fan speed. It will however function properly. No idea about 780M but you might need a flash a different vBIOS version.

Be careful NOT to tighten the card screws too much. The other week i replaced the heatsink and screwed the 2 gpu screws too tightly. Screen went black during boot and got 2 bit pixels centre screen. Nothing.

Opening up loosened half turn on both screws and all was fine
