Title says it all. I've got a whole set of home DVDs that I transferred from our old VHS tapes and before they would play fine on my M15x; but, now they read as blank disks. I want to back up these DVDs to my external HDD but since they read as blank disks I don't even get the opportunity to rip these. They work fine on my other lappy but im not sure why they suddenly stopped working on my M15x (other game disks and DVDs/CDs read fine np). I appreciate all the help and thank you guys in advance.

Do those discs read as blank in other players? If no then your dvd reader is dead.

These dvd readers only last a few months specially if you never use them. They dry up :p.

That's the problem, they work in my other laptop but not in my DVD player which plays movies all the time... My M15x DVD reader also plays other DVDs and game disks fine so I'm confused as to what the cause of the problem is.

Sometimes DVDs like that can be exceedingly picky on what will read them after they're burned. I've run into this issue before and literally the only player that could read them was the one that made them. This was a DVD/VHS burner combo.

The confusing part is that these DVDs have played fine on my M15x in the past...

I did some research before jamming a disc cleaner disc into my slot load and came to the conclusion that that wouldn't be a safe idea. Any other suggestions?
