Okay I am thinking of getting the M15x and i had a question- Can i turn the back lighting off for specific areas only? I know that there is a go dark function button to turn of alienfx but that turns of all the lights right. I wanted to know if i can turn off the lights for specific areas, ie turn of the KB baclight only(this is really important cause the lights of the KB will reflect off the glossy screen which irritates me).

When you use the FN+F11, this turns the keyboard lights off only. You will still have the mouse pad outliner and touch buttons lights on

So is it possible to turn off specific areas only(apart from KB which is possible as you said) like turn off the alienhead on the lid but leave the other lights on?

Never really tried, you can go into the Alien FX and choose colours, so maybe you could but not sure. That or someone has probably written a programm to adapt the FX to suit.

I just quickly tried it out. So you can't turn off the alienhead (little one and the one on the back of the screen), nor can you turn off the strip of touch buttons. For pretty much everything else though you just set the color to black and they go off. Just realized the touchpad can't be set to black so the only way to get it off is to actually disable the touchpad fn+f12. Even turning Alienfx off it stays on. Hope that helps.

To my knowledge you can't turn off then follow lit areas (only change their colour, not including black) :

    Alien head (lid)
    Power button alien head
    Touch panel icons
The small light strip around the PSU connector (always blue)

You can turn off the trackpad lights by disabling the trackpad itself, obviously using a mouse in its place - The trackpad isn't the best tbh but it's still usable. My only issue with the m15x.

EDIT: Beaten to it by Schollz :)

You can turn off the touch panel icons, you just have to uncheck "keep status zones on during go dark". which actually turns off EVERYTHING. the alienhead on the lid, the power button, the touchpad light, the touch panel and the keyboard and grills.

So basically the alienheads and the touchpad light can't be turned off, but they can be turned off by disabling AlienFX all together right?

If you uncheck "keep status zones on during go dark" and disable the AlienFX, EVERY light will turn off, the alienheads, the touchpad, everything. (Except for the blue light on the AC cable, which only goes off if you unplug it.)

Just right click on the little alien head on the task bar, and then uncheck the "Keep Status Zones on during Go-Dark" option.

    The image might help too.

^Yep, do exactly what he said, right click on the mini-alien head uncheck the keep status zones option, then disable AlienFX by pressing FN+F11, now all the lights are off.
