470m installed. but one problem, will not go to 3d clocks.
have to do more testing, using evga but still would not go to 3d clock even when force with oc tools.

Nice. I almost had similar success with the GTX 460M in an M17x. Can the fans reach 100% speed? (which is a problem for the GTX 460m in a M17x for now). looking forward to benchmarks.

Well it's originally a GTX 480M board, but using a GTX 470M die. Because the 470m has a 192 bit memory interface, it can only use a memory bank config in sets/multiples of three, hence 6 memory chips total on the top and bottom of the board.

If nibitor supports the card, you could try changing the 2d clocks to the 3d or extra clocks.

Inap, try using rivatuner to force 3D clocks. Use the same method I described in the 260M throttling thread.

P.S. you may need to use nibitor to raise the voltage to 3D levels otherwise it might crash on you.

You may have to add the 470M device id (found in GPU-Z) to the rivatuner config file. It's located in teh same directory that Rivatuner is installed. For example, the hardware id for the 5870m (dell version) is 68A0.

I checked the rivatuner subforum on guru3d and found that 2.24c doesn't support the 400 series cards for OC'ing. You may need to try evga precision or MSI afterburner.

sorry guys i wish i had better news, oh well calling it a night. see what i can do tomorrow. don't know what else i can do, no real drivers or tools for the 470m. sighhh

Damn... actually it shouldn't be a bios issue since the idea of the mxm standard is that mxm cards work independent from the bios...

Have you tried the drivers from the clevo site? You can configure the X7200 with a GTX 470m, so just choose this model and you get the drivers.

Ok seasoned mobile nvidia user just putting forward ideas:

Turn off powermizer. Get it here http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...izer-switch-get-most-out-your-video-card.html and disable it when plugged in. (Try this with the 263.09 first then try this with the official 470m 259.51 sager driver, be sure to use driver cleaner between every driver swap!)

    Apparently 261.00 also works.

Try nvidia system tools, available from the nvidia site or nvidia inspector from guru3d which allows tweaking of 2d and 3d clocks.

Laptopvideo2go also has a guide to install drivers using the 'have disk' method.

Edit: Added nvidia inspector and have disk to list

Could it be a power issue? Maybe it runs in 2d mode due to lack of sufficient power.

yeah tried 470m isn't support yet with that either. maybe there is a work around but i don't wanna risk it yet.

sent most of the night trying out all the drivers i can find. some gave me bsod right after the logon screen. don't really wanna try the powerimizer switch. last time i've used it, it cause havok on my lappy. and its pretty old too.

hopefully i will get my hand on an official 470m driver tomorrow.

not sure yet, still more testing to do.

Heh, I really suspect that Dell/Alienware just needs to integrate full support for the card in the BIOS. Strangely enough, the Clevo 5870s and GTX 460Ms seem to work in the M15x with no issues (no driver or fan problems).

Apparently the 260 series are having some problems with 3d clocks on some desktop cards. You best bet is to try out 259.51.

Don't think so, similar systems run with 120W PSUs and the 470m. As the 5870 runs just fine there's no reason to assume that the power comsumption is limited by the motherboard, there must be another reason.

If you give up Inap, I'd be willing to test it in an M17x if you want to loan it. That SLi cable they gave is far too small to be useful in an AW though.

Did you try adding the device ID to rivatuner? I had the exact same issue mentioned when I went to OC my 4870's. I had to add the device ID to riva tuner for it to detect the cards. If you didn't do that, I would do that first.

Also, it might really be a power issue. The M15x's power supply is rated at 150 watts. The GTX 470m and your 940xm combined is 130 watts. Nevermind everything else that must be powered. Your screen is around 10 watts. The HDD is another 2-5 watts. WIFI card is maybe 1 watt. Ram modules can get close to 10Watts combined. You're really pushing the 150watt maximum. I think the M15x was only designed to have 65 watt MXM cards installed instead of 75 watt ones. That might be why.

What you could do is try and get another stronger PSU and see if it helps. Or use a Killawatt meter and see how much you are drawing.

    Double post.

Since the M15x Posted with the card installed, I'm now nearly 100% certain they would work in the M17x. Also, since the M15x posted, it is most certainly not a bios issue. If there was a bios incompatibility, then it would not post at all.

I might try getting a pair of them for my M17x to try it out.

Im also using a 240 watt psu but still same problem.
