Hey. The little LED ring right near where the cord enters the computer went half dead a few months ago, I don't care much. Now, in the past week, a few times while heavy gaming the LED ring goes off, and the computer shuts down. The weird thing is, at the time I have battery and the computer shuts down as well as the PSU. When I checked the PSU, it was really really hot, idk about 150 degrees F. I put it standing vertical instead of on the ground, since I suspected the wood floor may have reflected some heat. The cord came back on within a few hours I think. Next time it happened I unplugged the brick from the wall plug and replugged and it worked again. The third time, I put my head next to the brick and noticed a slight humm (while it was dead). I unplugged and replugged it and it worked again. Actually, I think one of the times initially when I replugged it it did not work, and then worked later. When i start the computer I get a message that the battery is critically low, but when windows starts battery is full (or close).

I am also one of the unfortunate who have the dreadful bios warning "wrong PSU!" but I disabled it in the bios. Cannot disable the battery message though, unfortunately.

What I am wondering is is my PSU broken? It is the 150w btw. If not is this possibly a result from my new 920xm? I have a Throttlestop OC of 25/23/22/21 currently but have tried a few different. Set multiplier at turbo, only EIST ticked. I don't know that much about CPU OCing so I might be doing it wrong lol, I did not change the TPL.

Has anybody fixed this problem with getting a 240w adapter?
    Thanks

to my knowledge dell bricks have a chip within them and when the brick breaks it stops sending a signal and the bios then shutdowns the laptop if the laptop is up and running when such a error/failure of the brick happens.
should you reboot the laptop due to the bricks failure the bios will warn you that the psu has failed or give a wrong psu.
long story short, you need a new brick/psu.

I have a similar problem. My power cord broke (When plugged in, it still turns on, but displays the wrong adapter message and won't charge).
    I have the M15X, R2 I think ( http://res2.graysonline.com/handler...sh&id=37122&s=n&index=0&ts=634364408155670000)
260M gpu and i7-720Q cpu, 8GB ram. I ran the alienware autopsy stuff and it said my battery was still good.

This is the info on my current adapter:
    Delta Electronics
    PA 510M family
    Model: DA150PM100-00
    DPN: J408P
    Input: 100-240v~ 2.5A(2.5A) 50-60Hz
    Output: 19.5v(19.5v) 7.7A(7.7A)
    Ref No: ADP-150RB B

Now, could I use this adapter: Amazon.com: Dell Slim 150-Watt AC Adapter Charger with Power Cord for Dell Alienware M15x / Alienware M17x / Alienware M14x: Computers & Accessories

or do you suggest the one posted above? Amazon.com: Dell 240W AC Power Adapter Charger P13F Laptop Notebook Computers -Flextronics Flat Version: Computers & Accessories

I just want my battery to charge again, so I can actually take it around and stop the cord from accidentally falling out and losing progress in games/typing.

I would get the 240w, as from what I read on intense usage the computer can use more than the 150w specified by the bios, although this is not certain. One report recorded over 190w usage while running furmark and some other bench. Plus, the 240w will not get as hot under load as the 150w. It is obviously heavier and bigger. One other consideration is that supposedly the delta cords are faulty, and the 240w one I bought is flextronics and it works fine so far...You make the decision.
