    Hey,

I have the Alienware TactX Headset, and it's 7.1 surround sound. Do I have to put in an external sound card into my computer so that I can make full use of my headset or it already at its full capacity?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi, well off hand I don't think the AW tactx headset is surround sound but I could be mistaken, anyway I've read in the past that since the M15x has two headphone slots it can do surround sound without anything external just have to configure it. Could be mistaken though.

The M15x has a real 5.1 surround sound output (through the headphone (2x) and the microphone jacks... but if your headset really is 7.1 (7.1 headset, really? :D) the only possible option would be an expresscard soundcard or similar.

Maybe you can config the headset for 5.1...

Well, I thought it was. It doesn't list the surround sound under the tech specs on the main website, and when I called Alienware they said it probably is 7.1. If you can find out that would be helpful :D

Is it this one? They don't say it's 7.1

That's a picture where you can see the jacks, and in case it's really this headphone, it's simple stereo, like a headset should be imo. No external soundcard needed at all. Plug in the headset and enjoy. One jack is the mic and one for the sound. Make sure to plug them in correctly :D
