Hi everyone, I just joined the site in the hope I could get some help. I own a m15x laptop and I'm having trouble in finding a surround sound system that will fit to my laptop and work using the in-built dolby 5.1 surround sound. I don't want to spend a ton of money on this sound system just something that will do the job and make my gaming experience more fun!.
Can anyone please advise in where to look. Amazon?? I need to know that whatever I buy will be compatable with my system and use the true 5.1 sound. I have heard some people buy systems that do not truly fit or make use of the full sound system. Please advise and all help will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

ebay would probably be your cheapest guess. you will require one of the two: amplifier+any home cinema speakers, or active speakers. latter would be cheaper and easier to set up, but they are rarer then home cinema stuff.

logitech and creative has a few 5.1 systems that works with pcs. try logitech x540 or creative inspire p5800. those work for sure

Any reason why you particularly need 5.1 sound?

A cheaper and better looking/sounding option is to get yourself a second hand separates system (amplifier, and maybe 2 sets of speakers) one can get good quality stuff second hand that will sound and look better than the usual plasticky rubbish 5.1 sound systems and probably last alot longer too.

Another plus is that you can play your music through it too and it will sound very good indeed.

If you are in the UK I could point you to some great deals on decent equipment on ebay. If not I can still you give you some ideas if you supply a budget.

Yes, I'm in the UK and wish not to spend anymore than up to 100 pounds! Any links to either systems that have been suggested would be appreciated please. Also, how does the systems connect to my M15x? Is it via the headset sockets I notice 2 on this?
Thanks for the replies it's appreciated. I look forward to your replies.

I would recommend something like this for the amplifier. Cambridge Audio do great sounding well made budget amps. I own a few all second hand and even after many years of heavy use they still work like new. Here is a link to the trusty A300. This amp is great and I own one myself. I chose it to bring with me to Japan and it works flawlessly.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cambridge..._HomeAudioHiFi_Amplifiers&hash=item4170a72a5b starting bid 20 quid

For the speakers I recommend these: 60 quid

Brand New Tannoy Mercury Bookshelf Stereo/AV Speakers | eBay

I own a pair and they are fantastic (mine are also second hand lol) these are brand new and have been upgraded with very good components to make them sound even better. These speakers are well known to audio enthusiasts like myself in that the speaker has incredible potential to sound better with some attention and knowledge. These are already upgraded and ready to go. They will sound amazing I am sure.

For speaker cable have a look here: 20 quid

Again I have used Cambridge audio as I really respect their company and they price things very well.

To connect your pc to your amp you will need this:

1.5m 3.5mm Jack to 2 x RCA Phono Audio Cable Gold Lead | eBay 1 quid

This is a very cheap one and only 1.5m. Obviously get one that is long enough and at a price you think is right.

That is total 101 pounds not including postage. Here you get a great souding budget system that will last you longer then you want or need it :) All these are taken from current UK ebay auctions. Clearly once you factor in postage you will be looking at around 120-130 quid total which is above your 100 pound max but you just won't find anything in that price range that will even touch the system I have suggested you put together. More importantly it is a system that will last meaning you are FAR less likely to have to replace it like you might with a 100 pound plastic 5.1 computer speaker array complete with vibrating/badly made subwoofer.

Your games and music will sound very enjoyable. If you or your friends have a mp3 player then this can also be connected up just like your computer via the phono audio interconnect

    Good luck!!
