So I recently put a LOT of upgrades into my m15x: a GTX 460, i7-920XM, Crucial 240gb SSD, USB 3.0 ports (the PCI thing), 16gb G-Skill 1600mHz RAM (kind of pointless btw), and I changed the outer cover from Stealth Black to Nebula Red. I also purchased one of the 240W power supply units that a few of you are using. Needless to say, my computer has been taken completely apart and turned upside down in the past month, but at some point I started having issues with games lagging VERY briefly and very often on multiple routers. Most games it doesn't make a difference, but in Dota 2, for example, I would get spikes during teamfights, which is kind of game ruining. I also started getting a message saying something about a power surge occuring and USB ports being shut off for safety reasons after I installed the drivers for my USB 3.0 ports. I uninstalled the drivers and removed the card, and the message has stopped showing up, but I would like to still be able to use the ports. Unfortunately the lag spikes on my wifi were substantially worse with the USB ports installed.

ANYWAYS, basically anything could be going on here. I've got my old 5300 card I'm going to try, and I'll probably take everything apart and put it back together again to be sure it is working properly, but if someone knows what the deal is here I would love to avoid a lot of needless troubleshooting. The obvious suspect is the power supply, but since so many other people here are using it without issue (that I know of) it makes me think that either mine is bad, or that something else is going on. Anyways, thanks in advance for the help!

EDIT: So sorry, this is in the wrong forum--I could swear I was in the m15 sub forum when I posted =(

When you say lag spikes, you mean purely networking lag, and not a frame rate slow down or processing jam, right?

I will move this to the M15x sub-forum for you.

When would you get the error message? I used to have an Acer laptop that did this when connecting the AC adapter. See if disabling the ability to turn off the device to save power helps. You need to do this to all of the USB hubs with the option in Device Manager. (This stopped the issue on the Acer.)

I now make this ritual part of my normal initial system setup on all computers. I do the same thing with the Bluetooth adapter and it stopped it from arbitrarily turning off.

Correct, the spikes are only WiFi related (no screen or framerate slowdown) and they do not occur in offline games.

@ Mr. Fox: thanks for moving this! As for the timing of the errors, they are entirely random. I'll try changing the sleep settings (which I had already done for my other ports) although it seems like this is a different type of problem.
