    Hey all,

I'm getting an m15x very soon and am wondering about what upgrade options i have.

I'm looking to upgrade it, it currently has a 720QM However i want to upgrade to a 920XM, (moneys not a problem) but i also want to upgrade to a 6990m however i heard the CPU and GPU will draw too much power for the laptop to keep up with and the CPU will bottleneck due to the clock speeds being lowered? however if i get a 920XM and lower the multiplyers to like 22 or 21 will this still give me a better performance boost over the 720QM and not have to lower clock speeds due to the power limits?

Will there be a decent boost in games with the 920XM or should i stick with the 720QM and just whack a 6990m in there aswell?

    Many thanks!
    Curtis

I believe if both 920xm and 6990m are stock then you shouldn't be experiencing throttling issues. The gpu is more important in playing games as opposed to the cpu. Some games like gta4, bfbc2, etc require a good cpu.

well i run both xm cpu and 6990m, and i have no throttling issues at ALL on stock. I also run overclocked xm cpu and stock gpu and have no problems aswell. the biggest problem is keeping the gpu temps under control other than that everything should be fine. if your planning on mostly gaming i would just upgrade the gpu and keep your cpu, you honestly won't need it (it's a minimal gain really). But the es chips are fairly cheap nowadays.....

^^ battery life suckssss, its about an hour for me, this thing pretty much has to be on power all the time especially to maintain it at peck preformance, im going to pick up a 9 cell batt later on to see how that handles, but for now im good im usually always plugged in anyways
