Hey Guys, I recently bought a GTX 660m 2GB card from ebay. I put a copper shim, and install went great. However, the drivers are not installing. and I was also wondering if i needed to mod my vbios. I can't download anything from the guide on tech inferno because of their 5 post rule. Can someone link them to me?

Alright let's try it like this:

    1) First try these latest 310.90 WHQL drivers.

    2) If those don't work, these have to. They're directly from eurocom for the 660m on the m15x. Download here

I forgot those drivers, however, They didn't work also. Probably because this is a 2GB version card. not the 1GB version. I might need a vbios or to manually mod the .inf file, however, I don't know how to.

Hmm blue cards are alienware cards if I remember correctly.

    Try these drivers: M17xR4 nVidia

Congrats! Glad you got it figured out. Most of the time, if the GPU is generations ahead or generations behind, you'll need a modded .inf before installing.

Congrats. Get benchmarking! Might be a great card for the trusty M15x. Personally I am getting tired of the 7970M. Lack of decent drivers and throttling issues make me wonder if it is worth buying a top tier GPU for this laptop!

Should of gone with the 675mx :D

or 680m , I believe that card would run better. My 7970m is starting to throttle more too.

By that I mean that if the GPU is generation(s) ahead or behind of your current laptop's tech/revision, it'll need a modded .inf file.

Example being I had to use a modded .inf to install a Quadro 2000M into my M18x R1 and R2.

I've got a 660M on the way from Dell. Shouldn't require modded drivers. It's designed for the M17X, but should run great in the M15X since it's a Kepler.

Open up GPUz and run some prime95 +3Dmark; see if you get throttling.

Boy, you got a lot to learn. (No offence intended)

Hey guys, the gpu is running great, however, there is something weird about the stock clocks. Here is a picture of 2 gpu-z's, gpu shark, and furmark:

    Untitled.jpg

As you can see there is a lot of weirdness. Please tell me what's happening.
(Note: Green numbers on bottom left are cpu temps and red are gpu.)

Compare your 3dmark score with these guys on this thread and see if your in the right ballpark.
[Guide] M15x with Nvidia GTX 660m
They are all overclocked to 1000mhz core though. Sounds like around 2900-3000 performance score is bang on for this card. Just make sure you are getting the proper clocks in gpu-z especially at idle or you will be chewing through battery like crazy.

Don't worry it seems to go into power saving mode also, and I got P2356 score for 3dmark11. Can you tell me if that's good? Beause I can't see their photo's on the forum. It was in performance mode also.

If it isn't throttling then the score should be fine for the card. I can imagine it is.

I have seen 660M owners OC the core from 835mhz to 1300+. Most crazy OC I have ever seen and the resulting performance beats the GTX 580M/GTX 675M.

I don't know the power consumption at this kind of OC but it is amazing to see such performance from a mid range card!

Let us know what it is capable of in the M15x. Some of us might follow suit.

Ok, good to know that I'm getting good scores. But, I'm a bit weary about overclocking because it fried my last card, and I can only overclock the memory clock and not the core.

Are you able to post a copy of your vbios? I've installed an identical card as you, the 660m 2gb, but my blacks are green, colours look 16bit, but all is fine with an external monitor.

Would be awesome if you can help out.

ok im unsure if either of you have done this yet so here goes, goto LaptopVideo2Go: Drivers and input your cards string number at the top, you get this by system properties/device manager/display adapters open it up and under your gfx card right click and go properties and under details change the drop down box to "hardware ids" write down the code to enter it into the site and it will check to see if theres a "already done" driver/inf file for you.
what I did was download the latest version of NVidia drivers for my 2GB Nvidia GTX660m from NVidia site and downloaded the inf file from that site and once I extracted the drivers I simply overwrite the file with the downloaded inf file and driver installation went without a hiccup. everything is working from auto fans, to internal/external monitor and audio over DP.
just so you know I have a Dell version Nvidia GTX660m.

Get your hardware id from device manager. Go to laptop2go for your drives input the id info download a driver. copy the inf info and put it in nvwin.inf. install and it should work. don't mess around with any other files just delete everything in nvwin.inf and paste what laptop2go gives you in there. Can't be any more simple.

im using 314.07 with my 2GB dell 660m and working perfectly fine here, to my knowledge the Nvidia driver det and the inf file must be matching, or that's how it used to be a while back.

Hey there, I know that the driver modding is annoying, however, if you go to google and search, "laptop gpu nvidia driver .inf mod" You should be able to follow the guides easily. If you cannot do it, let me know.

    Hello All!
I'm writing you as I faced a problem with my GTX660m on my m15x!
When I install it, The laptop wont boot. It just power up and all 3 lights ( Num Lock, Caps Lock , Scroll ) are constantly blinking, all 3 of them.
I tried re-seating the card, Power drain.... Nothing!I checked the bios, It's A9. I tried also my old GTX260m and An HD 5850 DDR5...... and the laptop is working fine with both of them!
Any Ideas what else I can do!? :D
I'm starting to think that the Card (Dell GTX660m) Is DOA :(
    Regards

try installing the gtx660m without the hdd connected.
if it fails and your Ram is good I would say the card is borked.

Ahh... You are at that stage. I just updated the drivers for my gtx 660m, and since I haven't done it in a while, It took some time to figure it out. Try following these guides:
(NOTE: these guides are not the same EXACT steps for YOUR card. They are the basics.)
