    Hi Guys,

I have been following this forum for quite some time now, and I read most treads with great enthousiasm, learned lots of new stuff regarding my M15x
In my own words its not the end for M15x after M14x came out..
    Its the beginning

    So
I wonder If somebody EVER - EVER tried upgrading their videocard to GTX560M in M15x ??? IN THEORIE THIS SHOULD WORK RIGHT ??

Cant find anything GOOD except 1 post talking about all the other options OUT THERE but I am not interested in any of the other options out there, .. 460M, 6970, 6990, GTX 470m currently :D

The 560M is the successor of the 460M which performs about 15% better / also fits the power limits TDP 75 watt /
Actually its advertised to be use less power than the GTX 460M / little like a boosted 460M

    Hopefully somebody knows this ??
Saves me some trouble finding out :D Having to buy it and try it

Cheers & Many Thanks for your inputs in advance!

    M15x cosmic black / 740QM / GTX 260M / Bluray / 8 GB RAM / 500 GB HDD / Intel 6300AGN with 3 antenna's! / ExpressCard 54 to 2 USB 3.0!

No, it hasn't been tried yet, at least I don't know of anyone who put a 560m in the M15x, most people go for a card which is officially supported or the much more powerful 6970m.

The 460m works very well in the M15x, even the Clevo version. The card is based on the GF106 architecture, the 560m is pretty much the same card, apparently Nvidia used a new photolithographic manufacturing procedure and called it "GF116", but it's essentially the same, but with slightly higher stock clocks and some more headroom.

So I can't really think of a reason why it shouldn't work in the M15x as long as you have a BIOS version which supports the 460m.
The 560m can be found online for a decent price, or you could call Dell and get one from them.

Hello, Thanks for ur quick reply!
    Greatly Appreciated.

I am on latest Bios A09, so that should support it right?

Looking to order from Eurocom, actually the 560m sells cheaper than both 460m and 470m,, which is Very decent indeed :D

    Brgrds,

Yes, should work, though as I said, hasn't been tried so far.
It's a bit less powerful than the 470m at stock, but cheaper and shouldn't have the issues which the 470m in the M15x has.

    Hola,
for some reason my post appears to be double in the forum, with different responses to it.. nevertheless..

There is 1 guy who has been successfull installing the 560M so far
    BUT >> with modified driver 280.26 <<

So I thought I post the link for here. Make it nice and easy for everyone.

Cant wait for my card to arrive :D

    Hi,
For the drivers can't we just install the original Dell M17x GTX560m drivers instead?

Sorry for double post, but would the fan control work for a non-DELL card? For example, would the one from ebay work?

A quick update since I was the one who posted in the other thread about installing the 560m in my m15x. It's still working great. My temperatures inched up a bit more when running more demanding games and topped out at 72C. The fans behave normally. My subjective performance experience is that it does indeed perform significantly better than the 260m. So I'm happy with the purchase and it was cheaper than a 460m seems to be now. The only thing I should have done (and probably will once I can find some) is replace the thermal pads on the memory.

I installed the 560M hardware ok, but now NO driver seems to recognise this card. I am puzzled as I tried about all drivers out there :

1st the modded .inf driver 280.26 from m18x forum
2nd a whole bunch of nvidia drivers new and older ones
3rd eurocom drivers from their website

Currently have an email out to eurocom tech support,
see what they can come up with

Anybody any ideas ? ? Much appreciated.

    I am on bios A09

.. probably won't help but here's more detail on exactly what I did:

I started out with a 260m card in and the 280.26 drivers loaded along with nTune. I'm running Win7 64-bit. I then powered off the laptop and did the card swap, without uninstalling the drivers first. I powered up the laptop with the new card in it and Windows reverted to a generic VGA driver. I tried to use the 280.26 standard install and got the "no compatible card detected" type message. I then did some research and came across that M18x modded driver post. I downloaded the driver package, ran it, it detected the 560m and complete the install. I rebooted and all was good.

The actual driver I downloaded was this one -> http://nvidiaforums.s3.amazonaws.com/dell.zip

Which is from that M18x post but isn't the main links at the top. It's from the second post.

edit: oh yeah, I'm also on A09.

    The 560M WORKS !!! hoera !!!
I manualy had to modify the .inf file. (edit: 06 jan 2012 : guys you can just pick the nvdm.inf from original nvidia driver set to apply this trick)
Took a few hours to find out.. but here is was I did :

So after initial absorbing it didn't work - and no usable drivers nowhere -
I studied the modded .inf file from M18x forum. It found that the specific device_ID from my (eurocom)card was not in it. I figured why not add it ? and so I tried and and after that it it just installed like a freshborn baby. VERY NICE :D

    * Device_ID of GPU.
To get the Device ID of your GPU, please do the following:
    -Open your Windows Device Manager
-Double-click on the "Display Adapters" icon
-Right-click over the icon for your GPU or any display adapter
    -Select "Properties"
-From the Properties window, select the "Details" tab
-From the drop down "Property" box, select "Hardware Ids"
-Copy the first line shown and paste it into your report.
It would look something like this:
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A2B&SUBSYS_9072104D&REV_A2

Device_ID from the eurocom card are:
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_02A21028&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_02A21028
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&CC_0300

My additions to the .inf file are in RED below the rest was already there and I didnt touch it:
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1251.03% = Section011, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_048F1028
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1251.04% = Section011, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_04901028

    %NVIDIA_DEV.1251.03% = Section012, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_048F1028
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1251.04% = Section012, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_04901028
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1251.05% = Section060, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_04BA1028
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1251.06% = Section060, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_02A21028

    NVIDIA_DEV.1251.03 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.1251.04 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M "
    NVIDIA_DEV.1251.05 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M "
    NVIDIA_DEV.1251.06 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M "

WEI is 7,2 with the 560M
Use to be 6,9 with the 260M
I know this is a stupid microsoft thing, but still

What kind of benchmarking do you guys like.
If you post here how to do what I will try that too

BTW repasted everything this morning and everything runs really cool now about 15 degrees temp drop for both cpu and gpu, I am now low 40 with throttlestop did not see such low temps since I bought it :D

At the moment I get 7.2 with the GTX460m so we need some benches of 3Dmark06 just for the high scores. Later I will update my latest score of 18180 later tonight if I get a chance and we can compare scores.

3dMark 06 is a DX9 benchmark and mainly CPU bound, it's simply not significant when it comes to GPU comparisions.

Yes, and its also confirmed to be working on Windows 7 32bit(x86) OS.
For those who have that: Same trick:
Just add the device hardware id to the nvdm.inf file and save it,
then reinstall the driver and youre good to go :D

Cool, thank you!! Stock performance is still below the 470m, but price/performance ratio is very good. And if it's correct what I read, then there's still a lot of performance hidden in the card, waiting to be released... apparently there should be a 20-25% increase with the upcoming drivers.

OK here are some results for OC today with 560M and 740QM.
3dmarkvantage and 3dmark11 gave very good results.

I really dont know how far to go with this so I just added steps of 10 to the core, from Nvidia Tools in the control panel, and worked from there slowly my way up.
    - 560M default is 775/625/1550
    - I went as far as 855/625/1710 and it is still not the end I believe.. :D
    See the attachments.

BTW everything stayed really stable, temps max 73 celsius for both CPU and GPU. And the Fans did not blow much at all much :)

Before I OC more , I would like to have ur comments on what values you would use ? what is supposed to be the max stable value ?
Can we calculate a value from a logical assumption ? If OC is 20-25% than is that from the Core ? from the Shaders ? or from the Memory to be set ??

    Many Thanks,

    BTW
I expect to blow any of these numbers away when I swap to 940XM later this week :D

benchmarks continued.. could not let it go :D its addicting
    865/625/1730 now.. 3dmarkvantage P9623 on x64

After 2 hours gameplay high settings with whitcher2
max temps (past 100 minutes) were 74 celsius.

IMHO this is quite decent no?

Very good remember you can also change the VRAM speed. GPU-z reports it as 625 which is 1250, put that up to 1500 or 750 depending on how you read it.

See if you can push it to 900/750/1800 then we would have a card that truly rivals the 5850!

Hi Guys, if you look more close to the pictures uploaded

You can see that memory bandwidth has gone up from
    60GB/s to 72GB/s with the 900/750/1800 clocks

Never knew this is dynamic ??? 72GB/s value is a feature of the 570M !

    From Nvidia :
GTX 560M >> mem bus is 192-bit and 60GB/s of memory bandwidth
GTX 570M >> mem bus is 192-bit and 72GB/s of memory bandwidth
GTX 580M >> mem bus is 256 bit and 96GB/s of memory bandwidth

pls comment if anybody knows this
