    Hi Guys,

I have been following this forum for quite some time now, and I read most treads with great enthousiasm, Also learned a lots of new stuff regarding my M15x:-0), In my words its not the end for M15x after M14x came out
    ..Its the beginning :))

    So
I wonder If somebody EVER - EVER tried upgrading their videocard to GTX560M in M15x ??? IN THEORIE THIS SHOULD WORK RIGHT ??

Cant find anything GOOD except 1 post talking about all the other options OUT THERE but I am not interested in any of the other options out there, .. 460M, 6970, 6990, GTX 470m currently :D

The 560M is the successor of the 460M which performs about 15% better / also fits the power limits TDP 75 watt / actually its advertised to be use less power than the GTX 460M / little like a boosted 460M

    Hopefully somebody knows this ??
Saves me some trouble finding out :D Having to buy it and try it

Cheers & Many Thanks for your inputs in advance!

    M15x cosmic black / 940XM / GTX 260M / Bluray / 8 GB RAM / 500 GB HDD / Intel 6300AGN with 3 antenna's! / ExpressCard 54 to 2 USB 3.0!

Well it should work fine, and I think the BIOS should support it.

I'm by no means a performance tweaker, but though I'd toss a post out there since I haven't seen anyone else stick the 560m in an m15x yet. I just finished installing mine this afternoon. I don't have many details on performance and whatnot, but I thought I'd toss this out there since I hadn't seen anyone else try it yet. Here's the summary:

    - Install was almost simple, except that the screws on the heatsink didn't fit the threads on the bracket of the 560m card. I just had to move the bracket over from my 260m card.

    - The nvidia drivers (280.26) didn't recognize it as a valid card, but this may not have anything to do with this card being in my m15x as I saw some other issues mentioned from m18x users and that's actually where I got my fix. Basically just had to do the modded inf thing. That worked fine and everything works perfectly so far.

    - After an evening/afternoon of gaming and running 3dmark06, the temperature topped out at 67C. Also no errors, glitches, or crashing of any kind yet. I have not touched clock settings yet. It actually downclocks even lower than I think my 260m did when idling. Right now hwinfo32 is showing the gpu clocks at 101/50.5/135.

    - I have no idea what type of 560m card this is. I just took the gamble and got one off ebay. It's probably the same card as would be stuck in a Clevo. I paid roughly $300 for the card (new)

    - For whatever reason, my cpu core power usage went up a bit with the new 560m vs the 260m. It's the i7-820.

Good for you and congratulations on your success. A man of action. Keep us posted about your experiences and the 560M's performance in whatever context applies. + rep.

That's great news, kpk02! I'd love to see some screenshots and benchmarks (vantage, 3dMark11).

So we can add the 560m to the list of compatible GPUs, the M15x never ceases to impress...

That's great to hear. Are the fans stuck at full speed all the time or does it operate normally as if you had your old card?

When I power it on, it goes into this start up repair thing. Does nothing to load windows 7. Laptop was working fine(browsing) before eating dinner last night and when I came back it was running the start up repair already.

Then I have this options for system recovery options:
    - Start up repair (doesnt help)
    - System restore (tried diff restore points but doesnt help. "System restore did not complete successfully. Your computers system files and setting were not changed. Details: An unspecified error occured during system restore.(0x8000ffff))
    - System image recovery (I forgot to create one)
    - Windows Memory diagnostic (doesnt help)
    - Command Prompt (no idea here:eek: )

Any idea on what is wrong with the laptop? Thanks
Did not install anything new last night, was working properly before dinner.

Try a power drain, just in case... probably won't help with this issue, but it's worth a try.

Ok, I guess you've got some important data on the drive... I recommend using a Linux live CD to save your data and then try to reinstall Windows.

Chances are that your harddrive is failing, I can't think of another reason for this behaviour, unless your system partition got severly messed up by a virus or similiar.
