As much as i love the M15x, i think power draw from the card will be too much. Couple that (if some does get it working) with xm cpu and the M15x is gonna have some serious issues.

But im so pulling for the M15x in relation to OP title.

Not to mention you're looking at close to a grand for a card.

Currently my M15x is in bits and pieces. It has no GPU so I can't boot it up to install an OS on the non existing HDD. Currently awaiting some parts. Once my 6970m gets here, everything is set up I will get to it. Was going to do it a few weeks ago but things went south for the M15x so I had to put it on hold. I'm not very optimistic about it working though :(

i believe the power draw will be the same as the 6990m (100w) which xeroxide has working on his M15x, there is a m17 r3 owner that is selling his 580m for about $750usd or a trade of a 560m + $500usd, and apparently some m17 r3 owner have been able to upgrade to the 580m from dell for about $549usd(which i could never get a quote under $1100 for a single 580m which is really expensive.... cuz at 550 im in :D ) so i kinda gave up and ordered a 6990m (m18x oem) card from table21 at the marketplace

    Hi guys,

Just wondering, I've got a Dell 580m on the way and was thinking to get a M15x to fit it in. Has anyone tried that already ?

The M15x comes with the GTX260m so my 1st question would be compatibility with the bios and then heatsink fitment !

    Let me have your thoughts.

    Cheers

It'll fit in the M15x with no problems that I can see, but whether it works is still up in the air. No one has tried it as far as I know. You could always be the guinea pig! :p

You could try it, the m17x r2 will run a single 580m, but not in SLI.... yet. Only reason i dont see it working is lack of bios support or the card takes to much power to run.

yeah i had been trying to get one before i upgraded to the 6990m, there was one on the marketplace going for 700 but he ended up keeping it and some m17x r3 members were able to buy 580m's from dell for about 535 i believe, but i couldn't get dell to do me the same offer they wanted 1100 for it, and finally an ex-member of nbr had one on ebay for 600 but nobody ever bought it. so i kinda gave up on it, but looking forward to seeing the out come of your venture
