    Hi Everyone,
I recently purchased an M15x from the Dell Outlet with the 260M (received 10/27) and the evening I received, the display crashed and recovered twice. I thought it was a driver issue and installed the latest nvidia driver. The next day it crashed and recovered apprx 10times and horizontal lines began appearing on screen so yesterday I call Alienware and the tech remoted into my M15x and while he was trying some fixes the display crashed and recovered on him every few minutes with the horizontal lines showing up. He finally gave up and said I needed a replacement video card and processed the order and I should receive it Monday. My questions are:

    1. Is this a problem mostly seen on the 260m on the M15x's? Is there anyone with the 260m free of any issues?

    2. What are the chances I'm going to be stuck in a endless loop of parts swapping?

    3. If the replacement 260m card does not work, should I ask for a 5850 and a mobo replacement or just a 5850?

    4. How many times should I play this game with Dell before I push for a replacement system? I know 3 tries is the norm.

Thanks ahead for the comments and input.

    U.N.

I have a 260M and I haven't had any issues. Bad components happen.

'technically' you have 21 days from 'date of invoice' to petition for a new/ replacement machine (in usa). sounds like 10/27 to me. until then it is better you put up with on site tech's, it proves your attempt to fulfill the 'repair attempt' portion of the agreement. on the 19th day you fight for a full replacement (its what i did) (even if it is working, at that point) through the cust rep. My replacement works awesomely, and im very happy i got alienware. hope it helps. -hubs-

Thanks, Hub..I'll definitely keep this in mind as it reaches my 21 days.

Inap... The tech remotely troubleshot yesterday and it crashed so many times he had no choice but to order me a replacement 260M. I get it Monday. I told Dell I don't want a tech touching my M15x. I'm certified MCTS, A+ and Security+ and don't need a moron causing me additional headaches...lol. I will install the replacement.

    I'll keep yall posted.

On a newly received unit I wouldn't accept a repair. Tell them you want something that works straight out of the box or you will just return it for a refund before the 21 days.

I'm only entertaining this because I bought it at the Dell Outlet. The M15x is a "certified refurbished" unit not new. Like Hub said.. I need to give the the 3 try rule before I start my non-stop complaining....lol.

I received the replacement GTX 260M today and installed it. So far so good. I'll be running some tests for the next few days to insure it's up to par.
