It won't detect windows 7 and the factory CC disc that came with the laptop. I've tried running other discs like game discs and they work. But it just wouldnt detect the windows 7 and the resource disc. Ive' also tried runinng from the boot menu, but still didn't work.

Is it not detecting it when you try to boot from it or is it not even showing up in your DVD drive under "My Computer"?

Worst comes to worst you can just create a bootable USB stick drive if you have one and you need to use it to reformat, repair, recover etc.

Both. I can't run it from anywhere. Also, I can't make the bootable usb stick drive, since it needs to use burn from the disc itself to usb.

You don't need to get it necessarily from that disc. Your Windows 7 key should be on your service tag at the bottom of your computer so you could just get a fresh install from your favorite site and create a boot drive. If you're still under warranty and maybe even if you're not I'd give Dell a call and tell them your problem and maybe they'll send you out a new disc.

My warranty expired this past September and dell wants me to fork over cash for the Windows 7 USB.

    I'm out of option.

Then just download Windows 7 from whatever website you want, put it on a USB, boot from that and enter in your serial key. It works the same.
