My M15x died two days ago, I came back home to turn it on and it wont turn on.Even the apapter light will go off as soon as i plug it in. I took out the GPU and then tried to turn it on then only the adapter remained lighted and thus I concluded that the GPU was the source of short circuit. But even after the GPU was not installed the laptop wont urn on. The only improvement was that the alien logo would glow, on battery it will keep glowing and on AC power it will just glow until the button is pressed.

Can anybody help me in that regard? What has happened to my laptop?
And from where I can get the parts?

My warranty expired an year ago. Though I have the option of extension but still I GUESS that they'll charge me for the current issue..

svl7 and inap... Please do enlighten me on this issue, Can i save my GPU?

If it was a dead GPU, wouldn't the notebook pass POST just fine after you take out the GPU and just run on the integrated graphics?

That sort of makes me think that your motherboard is dead.

You could ask a friend or someone on the forum to test your GPU to be sure.

There's no integrated GPU in the M15x, the system won't POST with a dead GPU, nor won't it without a GPU.

@saadleo: Did you turn off your system, came back and it didn't turn on anymore? Or was your system turned on before you left it?

If you say the adapter light only stayed on when the GPU was removed it could indeed be the GPU (or maybe the mobo), but it's a bit weird, in case you let your system running... okay, but when you turned it off before this happend, came back and the system didn't turn on anymore, that's pretty weird. Hardware failure while the system is turned off is so unlikely.

Anyway, did you try power drain and CMOS removal? Probably won't going to help at all, but it's worth a try.

In my experience, even if the GPU not integrated, first thing any computer must do is boot up BIOS. No BIOS, most probably mobo or PSU. Juz my 2 cent.

Actually what really happened was that I played crysis by overclocking my 260M to 650/1050/1600 with help of Nvidia system tools. and when I had enough, I closed the game. System monitor showed a Gpu temp around 78-80. I went for the shut down immediately coz it was late already and I had to sleep. As soon as the machine was off I put that in its cloth (that alienware cover) and put that away in an open shelf where I kept it every day. The next day when I came back home at night, I tried to power it on, but it wont. So I did everything that was stated anywhere on the Internet Including taking out the GPU and then powering on. But only the alien logo lighted up..

@svl7.. yes I have done those CMOS and power drain tests.. all in vain. I just dunno whether its the MOBO or GPU or Both...

    Plz help

Do know someone with a system which has an MXM 3.0 card? Only way to find out whether it's the GPU or not.
When you remove the GPU, are there any lights flashing? (tab, srcroll lock, num)

This is a simple question but have you tried resetting the bios by removing the coin battery?

I'm thinking it's more than likely something motherboard or psu related has fried instead of the gpu. You should still be getting some notifications from the lights as to where the fault is at if it's the gpu I think.

Regarding your warranty issue. Reup your warranty. Then in a week or two report the issue you're currently having.

i think its the mobo, if anyone have the same gfx card, you can try changing it. Otherwise, try changing the psu, still not working, its the mobo fried. :(
