I would. Kind of a silly question really, since you can either extend the warranty for 100 quid or pay several hundred pounds to get the laptop repaired. ;)

i believe if you RENEW your EXPIRED warranty you have to also have the computer inspected by dell to make sure it works before they would let you renew your warranty.

Find another M15x user to check your components or a kind soul here on the boards who will test your core components for you to isolate the problem. You get no power at all? Not a momentary power up/flicker of panel lights?

    no power at all?

if this is the case then it might be the same issue that i had... the ribbon cable.

tell me, did you open up the m15x before? if so, you might have bent/snapped the ribbon cable connecting the power button to the motherboard. it's quite fragile and easy to do unfortunately.

quick test would be to open it up again and carefully disconnect the ribbon cable, test each wire with a multimeter.

this is of course assuming you aren't extending your warranty and going for the diy method.

if you're not comfortable with diy then pay for the warranty extension. i've only had good encounters with dell technicians. only issues i had was with the damn online site... for some reason it keeps switching me back and forth between US and AU...

The real scenario is that I played crysis by overclocking my 260M to 650/1050/1600 with help of Nvidia system tools. and when I had enough, I closed the game. System monitor showed a Gpu temp around 78-80. I went for the shut down immediately coz it was late already and I had to sleep. As soon as the machine was off I put that in its cloth (that alienware cover) and put that away in an open shelf where I kept it every day. The next day when I came back home at night, I tried to power it on, but it wont. So I did everything that was stated anywhere on the Internet Including taking out the GPU and then powering on. But only the alien logo lighted up..

Remember.. My Adapter light went off as soon as i plug it in the laptop, but after i removed the GPU Adapter light din go out.. Also the alien logo lighted up and stayed lighted when on battery and on AC it would go off after two flashes as soon as i pressed it (And before removing the GPU there was no light at all)

And yes there was no other light anywhere

I havent opened my laptop before and i guess the ribbon is fine

    Mate. Stop.

If you bought the laptop from Dell then they are bound by EU law to give 2 years warrenty on the laptop, and 6 years UK law.

Just because the manufacturer warrenty has ran out does not mean that the *seller* of the item does not have to comply with law.

I was in a similar situation, my m15x dies 1 month after warrenty ran out, rang alienware and they were happy to fix it (no charge) and I did not even have to mention either the EU or UK laws.

    Hiya :)

    Here is a quick link..

Two-year warranty loophole (EU law) | This is Money

There is more to be found but that is it in a nut shell.

Ask yourself, should a laptop work for more than 13 months? The answer is an obvious yes, but dont stress, Ring them up... when I did in the 'exact' same situation as you they just fixed it, without me having to go ape down the phone quoting the law at them!

Tbh I think they 100% know the law anyway :) Good luck is just a phone call away.

No worries dude, I'm sure you are not going to have a problem with them, and if you do just start repeating the law. They already know the law so I highly doubt they will quibble with you.

    :)

Well, you are still within the EU 2 year warrenty.

A laptop should last at least 2 years of service surely :) thats why these laws exist!

    Ring them and see!
