Hi I have a m15x with the following specs.

    I7 940
    8 gigs
    Ati hd 5850 1gig

I recently replaced the videocard with the 5850 because the old was going bad and everything was working till I took a trip up to NY and went to turn my laptop on and just got a black screen and the the scroll and caps lock blink while the num is solid. I installed the new videocard about 2 days before the trip and like I said it was working till I got up here. Any hell would be appreciated. Oh and also got the new videocard off eBay. They said it was like brand new...

Try reseating the card, it could have gotten disconnected somehow during the trip. Same with the memory.

So basically you're saying to replace the motherboard.

He didn't say to replace the board, he said to replace the video bios chip. The chips are pretty cheap on ebay and if you or someone you know have soldiering experience...it should be a pretty easy fix. You can also contact the seller who you got the video card from. If the old card would still work enough to display something on the screen you can pop the old one in and see if you can at least rule out the GPU or the rest of the machine.
