    M15x keeps ejecting discs

I have a question that I wasn't able to find the answer to via the "Search".

My M15x is about four months old now, and I still love her dearly, however a problem has crept up. I do most of my PC gaming through Steam, simply for the convenience of not needing a CD, but I still have a few games on DVD - Bulletstorm, Dragon Age 1/2, etc. I'll keep a game in my DVD drive 24/7 and load it when I want to play it. I rarely have to swap discs, it's awesome.

Once in a while I'd notice during boot-up (and after POSTing) the M15x would eject my DVD randomly, for no apparent reason. I'd push it back in, because it really wouldn't happen that often. Yesterday though it started ejecting discs over and over. I actually can't keep a disc in the DVD drive now to save my life. I've tried DVDs, CDs, CD-Rs and it happens to all of them.

Any ideas? It would be nice to play a game, or reformat. :(

Have you tried a restart, or power drain?

Multiple restarts but no power drains. I'll try that.

    Thanks!

    It does not. :(

I'd try disconnecting the drive or something, but I'm afraid to open this thing up enough to get to it. Build quality is great, but accessibility is hurt by it!

Accessibility is pretty easy on it, but I would try to uninstall and reinstall the driver first. I'm not really sure if it's the right way to proceed, but it's better to determine if it's a software or hardware issue before opening the beast up. Worst case scenario Dell's warrenty is the best ever, so they should fix it for you

Yeah, I ended up calling them and ran a diagnostic I didn't know my system had - DVD drive is bad so they're sending a guy out in this next week. It's a good warranty... when they answer the phone. ;)

Haha good, glad to see you're getting it fixed.

Just out of curiosity, what was the diagnostic called?

It should be on bootup, F12, then "Dell Diagnostics" it's built into the BIOS.
