My daughter has an M15x and she tells me that if she is in a game and moves the laptop that sometimes the power plug comes out. When it does, the machine just shuts down. Is this normal and expected?

Happens to me too, then I got a battery critical warning. Obviously she was using a 970M? Just don't think the battery has anywhere near the voltage to handle that kind of power output.

Yes, 970M. You just confirmed hat I thought. Does the M15x *always* go into SG mode when on battery? This would knock out the dedicated card, correct?

SG mode? What do you mean? The M15x only has one graphics processor and that's whatever you put in the mxm slot.

Stealth mode only limits power draw to 65w iirc, so you can charge with lower power adapters.

Stealth mode only works with AC power.

Is the battery enabled (FN+F2 Switch). If it's disabled then it won't be charging. Over time if the plug comes loose enough times, and the laptop is running on battery and not charging when plugged in, then it will eventually be depleted.

Or It could be that it's completely worn. Check wear level with Hwinfo or HWmonitor. Also check the pins on the laptop for damage or debris.

I'm telling you, this wouldn't happen with a 260M or 460M. Same thing happened to me running my 680M massively overclocked. Battery is just not designed to suddenly have that amount of power output dropped on it. Might have irrevocably damaged the battery!

Might not be the battery shutdown, maybe it's hardware safety on motherboard to prevent battery explode from excessive power draw.

    No igpu in M15x.

You have to explain to your daughter to just be careful :)
