The thing is that when i start the laptop the fans start full speed and never stop until i turn it off..... this just happen with my hd5870 i have been trying drivers and reinstall windows.... everything almost and with not luck the card is working perfect and the temps are about 86c but i think could be better if i could get ride of that problem but when i use my old gtx 260m then the problems solves it self? the question is that what is the problem? i mean when i turn on the pc on the start the fan keep fast all the time and never idles as it should but this just happen with the 5870

Your GPU fan should be going full blast with temps at 86C. The fans on many M15x's start at or near full speed, probably as a test, and then taper off to idle speeds, ordinarily around 2,000 rpm. However, if your GPU (or CPU) runs hot, then fan speeds increase to facilitate cooling. With your 5870M at 86C, the fans are working overtime, precisely as intended. More then likely, you need to replace the thermal paste (and possibly pads) on your 5870M. Lots of Guides and guidance here in the forum. You've been around here; you know these things.

I had done it and the card just get to 86c while playing if not is around 51 but the problem is that the fans are at fullspeed from the moment that i turn the pc on till i turn it off , the fan never idles even if the card is cold :S

What are your temps when Idle? I'm assuming the 86c are under load because if those temps are idle then something is obviously wrong and like Rev said the fan should be running at max speed if thats the case.

When you told me the fans passed the test, did the fan respond to the tests the Diagnostic carried out? I believe it tests the fan with 0 rpm and then gradually increases the rpm until it maxes out.

I run both cards the test of fans and both passed the test but still with the hd5870 the temps at idle are about 50-53c and the fans keep always working at full speed and when im playing get from 82-86c depend of the game and still a full speed anyway... The fan never idles when the 5870 is on the system. I had test the card and isvworking but this issue with the fans , i had try to fix for over a month ... New paste, new pads and still the same problem :/

Doubt its the thermal gear since those temps look acceptable to me. I wish I could help you more but I am waiting for my replacement 5870m so I have no knowledge until I try it out myself (for the second time). :(

Even though the card should arrive by the end of the week I wont be able to test until my GPU fan arrives (its coming from Singapore) but its expected to be delivered by July 21. I'll make sure to let you know how it went as soon as both parts arrive. But while I wait, I'm confident that the members here might have the knowledge to figure out the fan issue youre having so dont lose hope :)

I have had a M15x in the past, so I know about this problem.

The problem is gpu fan lockups that occurs randomly at "cold" startups. The problem is being triggered if you turn off the computer directly after gaming. To prevent this, you can let the computer cool down before turning it off.

By the way the steel mode isnt working either , when card is on the system.

doesn´t help for me, happens also if you wait till its cooled,
they only thing which helps is starting it on battery mode and put the power supply then in.

    Tee hee...

Anyway. Does it do this when you start it on the battery? Sounds like that funny thing where the fans run full speed if you power up too soon after plugging the AC jack in.

Just saw this one, sorry. Yeah that's it then perhaps. Hey try plugging the AC in, wait 5 seconds, and then try starting it. See if that makes a difference. Widezu diagnosed this one surgically: if you power up within ~1sec of plugging the AC supply in then the fans will run at full speed until the machine is turned off. So far it's proved concrete fact for me.
