    hi guys!!

i am actually proud of being an OWNER of this great machine...but sad
my m15x got many probs so dell guys had got fixed evrything for me....except one problem i.e my 260m's having a bug or it may be fried.... it stucks in the middle of my work... like it's flashing random colours like red, pastel green...and then i must reboot it manually.

i know that this is a bug  in this GTX260m...and my Alienware's having a +2 yr complete care....btw can i get my card replaced or can i ask dell people to upgrade my card to GTX460m...or shud i get an upgrade to AMD's5870 card...frm ebay?? :D

    and I plAY Crysis2....
please suggest me the perfect option regarding the performance boost over 260m--->460m and 260m--->5870!!

and i can't find any sellers for this GTX460m card while AMD5870's having many dealers!!!

    thanks :D

I had almost the exact same problem, Alienware is now replacing my M17x with a new R3, of course I also had a host of other problems. and them replacing almost every part didn't help the problem. as for the 460m I'm not positive. but I am fairly certain I'll be putting mine up for sale to move up to the 485m soon.

it didn't but the first part did, he also stated
And there are plenty more people who have M17x R3's that plan on upgrading and selling their 460m's, so I'm letting him know it wont be too difficult to find a 460m soon enough.

I had the 260 as well and sometimes it would crash being stuck in certain games or showing rainbow colors (red, green, yellow, etc) However that may partly be the the driver issues. You may want to play around with different drivers to see which is more stable. However I did end up upgrading the GC to the 460 and I have never been happier!

Normal warranty covers any hardware glitches and so on. And you're on complete cover, you could just call them and tell them you're having problems with your gpu, they'll most likely change it for you.
I have all these issues too, replaced my GPU twice, mobo 3 times, ram once, speakers, keyboard, laptop housing, and I'm just on a normal warranty plan.

However, I do suggest upgrading to the newest driver and see whether the problems persists and if it does, just get it replaced.

I'm currently using gtx260m, gonna upgrade it soon.

All thanks should be directed at Revelator, am pretty sure it was him who pointed me that way. I know almost nothing about computers and hardware acquisition, short of scouring Ebay and tearing my hair out.

I'm upgrading from 260 to 5850, what are the procedures I should go through to completely remove my video drivers on my nVidia to replace them with my ATI ones?

Yes, uninstall the nvidia software (use ccleaner afterwards if you wish), then install the card and then the ATI drivers.

My i7 920XM shouldn't throttle with the ATI 5850 card right?

I'm not going to OC or anything

Ever since I havent been using Rivertuner and after I switched BIOS ver A09 I'm getting a BSOD kernal power 41

No, it works perfectly for me so far.

What do you mean? Your system crashes since the A09 update?

I have a 920xm/5850m combo in my M15x. Here is a throttling test with Furmark (Exteme Burn,Post FX) and wPrime v1.55 1024M benchmark test (set to 8 threads), with both the 920xm and the 5850m at stock settings. A09 BIOS. No throttling.

Take a closer look. He used Throttlestop only to verify that there's no throttling, he didn't manipulate anything at the CPU with it.

That was fast! Congratulations. I suspect that you will enjoy the 5850 very much. Remember that it is *highly* overclockable.
