So this morning when I turned on my M15x, I noticed that the battery wasn't full, so I moved my cursor over it and it said "plugged in, not charging". My power cord is plugged into the wall with the blue led light on, i turned the computer off, pulled out the battery, held the power button, and plugged it back in but no go. I even tried toggling fn+f2 for the disabled/half full battery/and full battery options. Should I try installing the bios that are on the Dell website? I'm not sure what version I should have, maybe that could work

I'm going to try to let it drain a bit more and see if it'll kick back in, it was at 33%. I've always been careful with it though and would shut it down at night to avoid it running for long periods of time unused.

I take it since I've had it for about 2 years now that I won't be able to get a replacement from Dell... If this doesn't work does anyone have any suggesstions on how to get a replacement from Dell? or a cheap one online somewhere? or even a fix? = (

I just bought a new HD for $100 and installed everything on here a few days ago, I really don't want to drop a lot more money on a new battery...

I"m not sure what to make out of my HW monitor. Here's a screen cap. Am I screwed? = (
I just updated my bios to A09, still a no go. Ugh... Where is the cheapest place to get a replacement or even a different brand of battery that fits?

Wear level 6% that`s great, battery` voltage 11.1v a little low but you said it was not charging so it will be.

So have you tried another charger?

Have you tried shutting down the notebook, removed the power cable and remove the battery and then hold the power button down for 30 seconds, and then re-assemble and give it a go.

Is your power socket loose, it is a really common fault, any sudden pull on the cable can damage it.

I tried taking the battery out and power cord, then holding the power button.
I tried a different outlet as well.

I'll try my girlfriends's charger later and see if it works. The power adapter always has been kind of crappy with getting realllly hot and making noises, and felt flimsy.
Actually, almost every time I turn on my computer I get a beep saying it's not the recommended power supply, but it still always worked and charged it. This would happen at random times. I'm hoping that's the problem since I imagine a power supply is cheaper than a battery?

For my case, I took out the battery and waited for 5 mins before it could charge again.

Tried leaving the battery out for a few hours and unplugged the cord as well, nothing.
Tried a new power cord and still nothing.

My battery seems to be in good shape, I don't know why it won't charge.

There's no drivers you can update for the battery side of things right? Even though there's "batter" under device management

I had same problem before. I would suggest try another power adapter as well, the Dell original plug is crappy.

Now that my battery is at 2%, I get a loud beeping noise everytime I turn on my computer and it says battery is critically low, even though it's plugged in. grrr

have you tried toggling FN+F2, one thing i have tried in the past and it worked for me was to pull the battery off while the lappy is on and then reconnected the battery and it started charging again

Do you think this post has any merit or is true?
    Alienware M15x - Plugged In, Not Charging 0% - GameSpot.com

"there is a very thin wire down the centre of the ac adapter cable that dell laptops and their bios use to detect it is a real dell adapter. this is very easily damaged and once its snapped completely the laptop/bios will not accept the adapter as a genuine dell so will not allow it to charge the battery. this is controlled in the bios so dell could remove the check but they haven't on my alienware m15x yet (v A09). it starts becoming flaky as its gets worn then snaps and won't charge the battery at all. just replace the adapter but make sure it is exactly the same specs inc. wattage as your original. i got mine for $30. baz"

Where can I get an OEM charger at? I want the real one that came with my laptop, not just an imitator if I was to try this... Gah I'm frustrated

If I use my old Dell adapter, it will have two beeps when I turn on my M15x. The description is something like "your adapter is not the default one". Even though it is.

I bought my OEM adapter from Power4Laptops - The Web's Largest Supplier Of Laptop Power Adapters

It is about twice as bigger than the default Dell one, but it works perfectly plus they have 1 year warranty on all adapter :)

    I hope this helps.

You can try all these steps to fix the problem. If that does not work then probably you'll need to send the e-mail to the distro at the bottom of the article because it may need a hardware replacement.

I sent an email but haven't heard a reply back yet.
Would any of these power cords work? It has the same model number as my current power cord does..

Amazon.com: Dell PA-5M10 Family 150W NEW Ultra Slim Power AC Adapter: Computers & Accessories

Alien Autopsy said everything is good on my laptop, even the battery is still at 96%, which is good considering a power cord is cheaper and easier to find than a new battery I think. I just want to get the right cord since I heard that it won't charge unless it's a specific cord. My girlfriends XPS cord won't charge it up either. Blah
