What works for me is the combination of the xxx.1290 beta version(s) of HWiNFO64 (or HW32) and MSI Afterburner OnScreen Display Server (comes with MSI Afterburner). You start the OnScreen Display Server first (Start/All Programs/MSI Afterburner/ . . . On Screen Display) and configure it for your app/game (there are a number of pre-configured profiles, but you can add additional ones), then start HW64/32 and go to the Sensors page and select Configure. Select the items you want to display by clicking on and highlighting it, i.e., under [CPU Digital Thermal Sensor], select CPU#0 Core0 and then go to the section Riva Tuner OSD in the bottom right portion of the page and check "Show". After selection, the column titled RivaTuner in the selected item in the upper portion of the page should then show Yes. Repeat for each item you want displayed onscreen. Sounds complicated, but is very fast and simple in practice. On the OSD Server screen you can configure the profile for your app or game to set where the data will appear, font size and color, FPS counter (if desired), etc. The HWiNFO64/32 has some information on the feature. Also see the thread in Mumak's (author of HWiNFO64/32) support section here: Support of RTSS - Displaying HWiNFO32 sensor values in Games. This feature is brand new, is included only in the most recent beta versions and is a very nice addition to the utility. With HWiNFO64/32 and OSD Server active with app profile selected, load the game and the selected data will appear onscreen throughout.

Sorry to work some thread necromancy here but I have been having this same problem. I can't seem to configure the settings to get the GPU temp to show ingame :( All I get is the FPS counter.

This is what I have set on the RTSS, I've tried every iteration of the various settings I can think of though.

This is what I've got setup in HWInfo

Lastly I tried in the regular MSI Burner but there is no option for me to display GPU temp at all in the menu there. There are only these 4 options to pick from, none of which I'm after.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Don't use Afterburner itself at all. You have both the OnScreen Display Server (aka RivaTuner Statistics Server) and HW32 configured properly. Just start the Server (select/highlight game/app, although it seems to work the same with Global selected), then HW32 and then your game. The data selected appears on-screen if it works with your game. Attached is a screenshot from 3dMark06.

It works in 3dMark Vantage; it does not work for me in Crisis (1). That's all I have tried it with so far and have no idea why it works with some, but not others. Mumak (the author of HW32) is always ready to help with any aspect of HW32, including adding features or making adjustments to meet user requests. You can contact him at the TechInferno link included earlier.
