So I installed COD MW3 last night (laptop sig), and oc'd my 5850m to 750/1100. Played for about 2-3 hours, and this is what I got from gpu-z/hwmonitor.

Max settings, everything turned on, 1080p, everything set to extra, 4x AA, sync every frame on.

Hwmonitor showed cpu temps hitting 79-83c, that's because I never did a repaste so not surprised.

GPU-Z reported max temps at 49c, and max clocks at 300/400. However, dedicated memory usage went to like 950, voltage stayed at .9, and can't remember gpu load.

Didn't see any choppiness or anything, game played very smoothly. That seems like a ridiculously low gpu temp and clocks to be able to put all the settings up for that card. Or is this game just optimized that well or not that demanding?

no doesnt seem right what oc utility do you use?
did u cross reference with another program(like hwinfo)?
try it at stock and see if u get 3d clock and if it looks any better than before.
maybe gpu-z wasnt reading right? the clocks on my 5850m used to get stuck at 300/400 everynow and usually a restart or a quick stealth mode on and then off fixed it, but i could always tell it wasnt achieving 3d clocks

I know gpu-z was running fine because prior to playing the game my clocks were up to 500/1000 and even 625/1000, when i had a 30-40 tabs loading videos on youtube. Even after exiting out of the game, I went back to loading about the same amount of videos and my clocks went up to 500/1000 or 625/1000. My laptop wasn't even hot on the gpu side, just the cpu side. I mean I'm not complaining, just wondering if that's normal.

GPU hasn't always showed the correct clocks for my 460m when I have it highly overclocked for benching. I guess that its just the way it works. :(

Ill go home tonight after work and use gpu-z and hwinfo64 to monitor it and report back.

EDIT: So I loaded the game up again for about 2 hours, showed proper oc'd clocks of 750/1100. Max temps 66-68c for gpu, and 71-72c for cpu. Fan speed hit around 3700-ish. Same great performance =). Probably some hiccup with gpu-z the other night.

Now time to install battlefield 3 and see what a real shooter feels like!!

I have yet to need to OC my 5850 for MW3. At max settings it runs smooth as can be.

Are you sure you maxed it? Textures must be Native rather than Extra. Extra is highest for consoles. Native actually renders all textures at native res.

I have everything set to extra with the exception of image quality. Extra actualy down-scales the image to 85% and then stretches it out to 100%. Native is the best for image quality. And yes, I have everything set to extra except image quality is set to native. Anti Aliasing is 4x. The only thing I turned off was shadows.

Why would you turn off shadows? What is the point? The game runs fine with it on, on any modest GPU. Turn it on, games look weird without shadows now to me. Things look like they're floating!

wow never knew setting textures to extra stretches the image. im gonna try it on native to see if i can notice a difference.

Set it to native this time around, the game does look better. a slight hit to the fps i'm getting (3-4 fps drop). But what do you do.....you OC MORE!
