Thinking of buying this game, how well does it run on the M15x?

    Thanks in advance :)

@Coops, I purchased this game a while back during a 12 bucks sale. Metro is neat. During the intro mission you will see how hard it pushes your machine when there is approx 30 weird monsters doing a pack rush on your squad. I didn't finish the game or anything.

Details.. I can only tell you the m11x R1 can play it at native details, low level, dx10 and get around 30fps average. It does dip into the 20s fequently when monsters are plenty. The M11x R2 (which has the ULV I7 proc) can run the game at medium and stay around 30 fps avg.

My guess is that with the I7 (true quad/8thread) proc you have and the 5850 you should probably be able to run it at high or med/high levels, dx10 or 11 and be smooth.

The game was supposed to be written by some of the old members that wrote the original STALKER so it has that type of feel. Some folks call it the next CRYSIS but I dont agree with this statement at all. It is a demanding game, but it is no CRYSIS.

    Best Wishes, StevenX

I have the game and a system running the specs in my sig... I have no idea how to do a video capture of the game without a video camerea. If someone would like to share the best way to do it I can upload some game footage to the web later today.

@Dane- if you can run fraps (hit f11 during the game but not in the menu) and see what is shows in the fraps log that would be great. It will give you min/max/avg fps. To end the bench just hit f11 again.

    1. start game
    2. load game save
    3. start playing (hit f11)
    4. play, run, pew pew some monsters
    5. (hit f11) again to end bench
    6. save game if needed and exit
    7. c:\fraps\frapslog.txt <--- open this file
    8. post results!

    Thanks!

No problem, thanks! Is the benchmark part of the free edition of fraps or paid version? And what settings would you guys like to see it run on?(game and gpu clocks)

@Dane - logging is free part of fraps. I would start say at medium levels with dx10 and work your way up.

Say medium log for a level. Exit.
change to high, log for the same level, exit,
adjust to very high and log for the same level again.

This way you are playing the same section of the game on different details.

    Thanks! StevenX

Here's the results in text files. I ran both 1600x900 and 1920x1080 at Normal, High, and Very High in DX10. I also ran one test on both resolutions at Normal on DX11. All are actual in game play, at stock clocks of 625/1000 forced on AMD Clock Tool. Enjoy!

    Normal-DX10-1600x900
    Normal-DX10-1920x1080
    High-DX10-1600x900
    High-DX10-1920x1080
    VeryHigh-DX10-1600x900
    VeryHigh-DX10-1920x1080
    Normal-DX11-1600x900
    Normal-DX11-1920x1080

P.S. @Coops I think you should realistically be able to play just about anything on DX10 if you set your clocks to 700/1000, or normal to maybe high in DX11 with the same clocks.

@dane- which level did you play through to get the numbers? This is fantastic!

    Great job and +rep!

When given the option I would rather see numbers from real gameplay vs shrink wrap benchmarks.
However shrink wrap benchmarks are good for repeat numbers.

Yeah wasn't exactly easy to get those numbers as each benchmark is about 5 mins long, lol, thanks for the rep. I played through the first level, I figured it would give a good mix of different things in the game-smoke, high amount of bad guys, slow moments, etc. If anyone wants to see results of anything else in particular just let me know.

i did some tests using the ingame benchmark
spec's are in my sig, also had the razer megalodon connected for 7.1 goodness (and boy does it sound good in virtual 7.1)

all tests were run 2x and the 2nd run taken to ensure stuff was in cache...
looks pretty similar in comparison to what Danger found in game.

i must say, even on low, the game looks beautiful. dx11 seemed a little glitchy with textures and explosions, i can't quite place my finger on it but it doesn't look right. Depth of field is jaw dropping, love the effect however tesselation seemed an after thought in this game...

take of it what you will, hope this gives you a further idea of what to expect. oh and for the record, i play at dx10 with medium 1080p and got through the entire game without a hitch on those settings.

hehe, check out "for the insane" settings near the bottom... thats enough to make even a decent sli/crossfire system buckle under pressure.

Xeroxide - Great benchmarks. Thanks so much for the time and effort...

What it boils down to is you can play the game with any processor and th 5850 at normal levels and dx10. Any higher and it becomes a real challenge to get fluid rates.

Great work everyone on these numbers. +Rep to Xeroxide

Metro will definitely drop in the twenties with it maxed out on 1920x1080.

To play the game smoothly on high i had to drop the resolution. I hate playing anything that drops below thirty so i spent a lot of time trying to find the perfect settings to get this running without dips. It's a good game though definitely play through it. Tad short though as mentioned before.

Metro 2033 Included benchmark. It's weird.. If I bench on dx10, medium, aaa, 4af Average 50fps. Same settings Hi, 38fps, very high, 26 fps. Literally each step has about 12/13 fps.

    GPU Clocks 800/1000

You can run medium settings dx11 all day fluently on the m15x in my experience, no stutters what so ever. On high it usually runs ok but it isn't great in battles with some dips but to be fair I didn't tinker about much. dx10 on high ran smoother but again it is gets noticably slow but is more than playable. I only have a i7 620m maybe a 920xm fairs better.

@SacredDreams the game isent "long" but it aint that short either. and even tho you would get more game time out of other games like Fallout 3 and new vegas, Metro 2033 is not something you should pass. I have to say that Metro 2033 is one of the best games i have ever played. i ran it on my m15x i7 820Q 8gb ram on about high settings. The game itself is a game version of Dmitry Glukhovsky novel Metro 2033. If you like post apocalypse games then this is defenetly something for you. And a last thing, the story in this game is absolutely amazing, due to the story coming from a real novel.

Look at the nice vid I found, that showcase the AMAZING lighting effects of Metro 2033:

    YouTube - Metro 2033 - Impressive Lighting
    (Chapter 6, "The child")

I guess that the settings were set to "high" because of the soft volumetric fog. You can also notice that this gamer's rig was struggling during the rendering of that scene (low frame rates).

Metro 2033 is one of my favorite games. I wouldn't call it short. But then again I would not call it long either. It took me about 10 hours to beat it, but I've replayed it on harder difficulties twice more and once more right now actually :D

I have a i7 740q, 6gb ram, and ati radeon hd mobiliy 5730 (11.2 drivers) and I can run it on very high with dx10 with about 40-50fps I would say. It's not perfect but it is very playable
