After reassembling my M15x, the keyboard started randomly inputting characters through the internal keyboard when pressed, and at other times it would block all input, both internal and external.

A few days later and both the internal and external usb keyboard are not inputting, except for the space bar.

Would this be solely a motherboard issue? I have a replacement mobo and keyboard on the way, but hopefully this can be resolved.

Your flatcable (ribbon cable) connecting mb and powerbutton isnt connected properly or damaged.

I think it could be the ribbon cable going fra the keyboard to the motherboard that is the culprit. I had to replace my ribbon cable for the media panel years back.

Have you tried reseating the cable first? Make sure both cable and socket are clean.
Otherwise replace the keyboard first and see if it solves the problem.
