My Alienware m15x has been having random problems just like when a car is about to get stuffed minor things go, only main problem was HDD went corrupt but thats not major.... i need to buy a new HDD for it yes but it wont improve on speed alot.

i want to know a way i can improve it by a lot, i've been looking at custom laptops, Alienware and Asus ROG laptops and nothing personally beats the M15x with the style and build structure.

it runs games fine but some others it struggles, i just want no struggles with most newer games, runs BF4. GTA V perfectly.

Do i upgrade CPU, GPU etc?

    Specs, budget?

You can cram an SSD in there, up to 16GB of ram, 920xm that can clock well over 3ghz on all cores and even a 980M. Sky is the limit.

    Need more information :)

get yourself a smaller SSD (120gb, 256gb), HDD Caddy throw a 1tb in there for game storage, 16GB of ram, 920xm and pick yourself up a GPU.

    7970m, 680m, 970m, 980m. The laptop will accept them all. :D

Just a sneaky tip. Toshiba sell their canvio basics 2TB hard drive for under £50 (probably still cheap whichever country you're from). This external hard drive isn't too difficult to take apart and has the standard SATA interface at its core....and boom you just saved like £10 compared to buying just the drive.

Indeed. My 2TB samsung was also an external drive. I just pulled it apart and stuck it inside.

Ive still to pick up a hard drive for game installs thanks for the tips never thought to pick up an external and rip it apart.

A cheaper gaming option for gpu is the m6000 fire pro. Works pretty wel

thanks for the advice guys, i will look into the m6000 fire pro good price to, really i don't have a budget if need be i could spend 2k on ram but i really don't want to... i wanna be stingy as anything and get best bang for my buck, i don't care if it breaks in 4 years it will be so outdated i would have bought a new one. the reason why i don't want to buy a new "gaming laptop" is because i don't need it as it runs all my 3d animation and graphics design stuff fine for school just want to bring a car with a crappy paint job and upgrade it to be faster than a supercharged car :p

I suggest an AMD 7970 for the graphics card. I suggest this card because it has been a popular card for the M15X for years and there aren't many issues reported using this card. I am using a 7970m now after problems with the m6000. You will need to do some easy fitment mods to the heatsink to get it to fit properly, but after that, it's pretty much smooth sailing.

Also, if you are having random problems and have already formatted and reinstalled Windows, you may have motherboard issues and may want to look at replacing the motherboard. There's another thread in this forum about this.

my choice was between the m6000 and the 7970 just didnt have the pennies. Dont regret it at all but the m6000 is a budget card so your not gonna get super insane performance, it can run ac syndicate on low for me just. I can imagine that would be a problem with the 7970 as well with it only being 2gb vram. But i suppose its not a well coded game (damb you ubisoft)

    Whats the chices for cards above 3gb ? the gtx 770 , 970m and 980m... maybe the m290x 8970m ??

Which would the be cheapest and best for gaming

I might apply CLU tomorrow. Wish me luck!

M15x heatsinks only have copper contact point! Going to have to be careful...

That was outside dimensions of the unit. Just keep in mind, there is some less space inside by a couple of millimeters.

creative x-fi xtreme audio notebook expresscard/54 would be great thing to match with speaker
or just look for something like Harman Kardon Soundsticks II or III, it would be great improvement over foxl dash7
