My M15x can't even play Diablo 3 :( I have an i7 740qm, 8gb of RAM and and very crap-tastic GTX 240m... So I decided it was time to upgrade to the M17x R4, i7 3610QM, 6gb of RAM (I chose not to select the 8gb because I didn't want to spend $70 on 2gb of RAM...I can find it much much cheaper) and a Radeon 7970m which I'm very exited about because even though it's cheaper than the other option (GTX 675m) it's still better. And tons of benchmarks prove it! Anyways I'm expecting that to come real soon but is it weird that I'm dropping almost 2k just because I can't play a game? >__>

Not really a reflection on Alienware, you're using quite dated tech in the m15x to be quite honest.

The same was as intel graphics 3000 isn't going to be able to play metro 2033 on ultra, doesn't mean that Alienware is crap.

As for spending 2k on a computer, if gaming is really that important to you to be able to play and max out games, depending on what all you opted for building your system, it is totally worth it.

Really not sure what your point is, and why you're blaming Alienware for something that quite honestly really isn't their fault.

Not really blaming alienware, I love my machine...it's just outdated...in the gaming standards. And as for my point..I'm not sure what it is...I guess I'm just trying to get some reassurance from the rest of the AW community that I'm making a wise choice. I like gaming and want to do so in the best mobile gaming machine...I like to think I'm not the only one in this boat.

Well, as I like to put as a disclaimer on most of my posts, I am not an AW owner, though definitely considering it.

Currently my family all own Dells, and my brother has had several issues with his laptop, but because the warranty is second to none, all of his issues were resolved efficiently and without hassle (only hassle being without it for one, read it ONE week because of some motherboard issue or something. If you read around about sager/asus etc. it's usually 6-8 weeks)

In the 17x and 18x department, AW is equal to or better than other brands on average in terms of performance and options for your system (minus screen :( )
Build quality is something that people rave about quite a lot, seem to be very high quality materials instead of cheapish plastic.
Also I'd say that if you hang around these forums every now and again, it alone will make you proud of your choice. When I look at getting one later in the year I know that I'll be consulting these guys first, and that if I have any issues I'll probably even be coming here before Dell.

Your new computer with the 7970m should be a beast that will last you a number of years with maxed ultra settings, so have no worries about that. ;)

You will be able to run anything you want now on that beast. I just bought a m15x with the i3 for $400 two weeks ago and upgraded it pretty well so I am set for a while (the 240m was not too bad ;) )

You can not beat alienware though, I will not buy another brand of computer unless I was forced to. You will not regret buying that computer!

You could have upgraded it for cheaper though. Your CPU is fine, and with a simple GPU upgrade to a GTX 460M or even a 7970M you wouldve saved a lot of money

I wanted the 460m but I didn't have the cash at the time! plus now seeing some of the gameplay footage on youtube of BF3 and how realistic it looks (especially on the jet fighting part) I couldn't help but want it (m17x) even more. I was thinking about upgrading but I wasn't sure if the 7970m would fit in my machine. I was reading how specific video cards can fit in the m15x, so I was just recommended to get a better computer since I'm still rocking the clarksfield (I believe). I was looking at the benchmarks for my new CPU and GPU compared to my current CPU/GPU and it just blows my machine out of the water...It’s the equivalent to what the atomic bomb did to Hiroshima...

my current asus g73jh have i7 720qm, amd 5870m and 8gb of ram. and i've been playing d3 since game launch with good fps rate @ high settings.
still very good and very enjoyable while waiting for my brand new m17x r4 to arrive (ordered late, so i'm at the bottom of queues for the new 7970m card).

Nonsense lol. My 920xm clocked to 3.33ghz on all 8 threads can still give the 3610 a run for its money :D

Add a 7970M and the M17 R4 is what a big waste of money ;)
