I ordered an m15x with the specs listed below. I mostly play World of Warcraft and CoD:MW(MW2 When I get the alienware in the mail).

    • Intel Core i7-620M 2.66GHz (3.33Ghz Turbo Mode, 4M cache)
    • 6GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz 1 x 2048MB + 1 x 4096MB
    • 15.6-inch Wide FHD 1920x1080 (1080p) WLED
    • 1GB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5850

Now I am wondering if I should have opted for the i7-720QM. What do you think and how do you think it will perform in World of Warcraft?

your going to blow away WOW,

Both are great processors. but in your case I might just stick to what you have. If you plan on alot of apps running simultaneously then go with the quad core but in the end you'll have 4 threads capable of processing.

Alot of people here with the 620 bench very competitively.

Your setup will eat WoW for breakfast, lunch, dinner and 4th meal....and still be hungry for more. ;)

My brother has an almost identical setup and he's never had a lag issue...ever.
Sick setup though. Don't worry about the processor; for gaming you really don't need the 4 cores.

With the exception of compiling large applications in Visual Studio, I don't really do too much more then those two games, So I am pretty stoked. Thanks for the input.

    No problem!
Now you just have to wait for it to be delivered. Which stinks. :(

Correct me if I'm wrong but dont you need identical ram sticks to have the dual channel activated. If you have 1 4GB stick and 1 2GB stick thats not identical so will it be single channel in that confgiuration?

Well, for the 6gb option on Dell it doesn't say anything about dual channel

If it ends up being single channel I am going to be slightly perturbed as I was originally told it was tri channel on the phone.... Then i got my order and it said dule channel. If it turns out to be single I think I may just have to call them... :|

Will i be able to upgrade it to 4gb more without removing the existing ones. I want 8gb so any suggestions would be helpful

That depends... You need to look and see if it has 2x 2GB or 1x 4GB in it... There are only two slots for memory, so you might have to make a choice... If you do want to upgrade and you have 2 2GB sticks you will have to buy both 4GB sticks to replace the others.

6 GB of ram will run in dual channel mode. i had this same question a while ago. newer mobos can support FLEX mode that allows you to run in dual channel mode.

6 GB of ram will run in what is equivalent to 4 GB dual channel mode with 2 GB as backup from what i understand. hope this helps.

Is 9 cell battery a must have? I'm planning to get a 6 cell then buy 9 cell battery separately from ebay (if I need one), since it's cheaper that way. Also, is carrying 9 cell battery much heavier compared to 6 cell?

If you plan on using the computer from the battery at all.... Don't go with this computer. They are not really meant to run off the battery. 9 Cell you can get 2 hours of use (web surfing and stuff, but NO gaming, it will chop up and you will only get about 29 seconds of battery life).
