Ya that doesnt sound normal at all. I believe the right side is GPU and left is CPU but not 100 percent sure. Sounds like a grinding to me. I would call Dell till they send a tech out.

Have you tried taking the panel off and just looking at the fan seeing if maybe its something simple.

So are they going to come out and fix unit?

Might be there the sticker (square about the size your pinky fingernail) on the video card(s) face pointing to the fan. I pulled that off (both) and it went away. Basically the sticker can get pulled down (a part of it) when fan was blowing and hitting the blades spinning. Simple procedure (there are youtube videos showing how) to open it up and move those stickers. Plus you can clean your fan vents. Bonus.

Oh man!!! I might actually be able to help for once... had a similar problem with mine when I first got it. Peculiar sound coming from the fan on the GPU. I opened the bottom plate and had a look at the fan and noticed it was slightly loose. After tightening the screws up the noise stopped. Apparently the fan was vibrating causing a buzzing sound when it ran at high speeds. Try tapping the fan casing with a little bit of force and see if theres any movement.

Just give it a try and see. I might be way off the mark but it sounds very familiar.

Hi, I'm a technician and I have a m15x. When my fan makes noise, it is because he has accumulated dust. This creates an imbalance and the fan vibrates. It is important to clean them every month because the imbalance is bad for moving equipment. You must open the cover below by removing the battery first, unscrew the 2 screws and slide the cover toward the direction of the battery.
You then blow the dust through the fan blade but also filter out. Push the air into the interior and exterior. Keep the fan to run at high speed so as not to break it. If you use a compressor, make sure to remove condensation from the tank to not send the water in your machine. You can also use a can of compressed air. But read the instructions: If you use the can upside down, you will sprinkle the material of a white smoke-like nitrogen. This smoke sticks to the material and leaves traces. If you are a smoker, try not to smoke around your computer. The resin adhesive on the material and become liquid by heating. The dust adheres and become impossible to clean the mechanism. In addition, the resin cold become stronger so the fan force, which is not good. As mentioned above, make sure the fans are well screwed.

Have a nice day and good luck! ;)

well, try to open the case and have a look, probably something interfere the fan spinning inside there. or maybe the fan collecting dust.. :)
