I just got the laptop from Dell outlet this morning and when I run furmark on my M15x, the software won't display the GPU temperature (shows temp=0 C all the time) but I can gather the temperature sensor information from HWiNFO64. After 10 minutes Furmark run, the GPU Thermal Diode was 96 C, DispIO was 79 C, MemIO was 96 C, and Shader was 82.5 C. I was wondering if the temperature was mormal for 5850

Yeah use HWinfo for temp monitoring as if Furmark displayed a temp it would only be one of the 4 you can monitor.

Your temps are a bit high for stock clocks so you really should repaste the GPU if you have the ability.

Also prop up the back end of the machine for better air flow. Does not matter what you use be it bottle caps etc. Or if you have the 9 cell battery you wont need to as it props it up nicely.

The system comes with a 6 cell battery :( .
I just put my new crucial 128gb m4 in and will repaste the GPU next week. I guess it's a bad idea to overclock the gpu before I repaste it....

Yeah i would not do to much overclocking till you get the temps under control.

Also propping up the backend should shave off some degrees for the moment till you get it straight.

    Good luck and enjoy :).

i really dont see any reason why anyone would run furmark past a couple of mins(unless ur troubleshooting some existing problem). its very stressful on the card and the longer u run it the higher the temps WILL get, just game and run hwinfo or gpu z in the background and u will get real world results.....
