I am currently getting the "This is not the 150W power supply unit originally shipped" error in the BIOS on start up on my Alienware M15X (even though it is in fact the 150W power supply unit originally shipped). So, to resolve the situation, I purchased a new PSU on Amazon. However, I purchased a 240W version, because of my intentions to eventually upgrade the GPU. I've read somewhere (I think on these forums) that you can tell the BIOS to begin to recognize the 240W PSU instead of the 150W one, so with that being said, is it actually possible to tell the BIOS to do that? Thank you for your time and consideration.

Also, if anyone is wondering, this is the PSU I purchased and is being shipped:

You can't tell the bios or system anything. Only thing is to disable the warning message that pops up saying its not a genuine charger. Getting a 240w psu does nothing for your laptop aside from the charger running cooler.

Actually with many 150W PSU's if you run your cpu hard and fast the laptop the PSU will shut off causing a hard power off of the laptop.

I had this when I started video encoding at 25x at 100% load. With the 240W PSU there wasn't a hiccup. (yes at 3.35ghz 100% load 8 threads and 95C constant temps for 14 hours straight or longer!)

As for gaming khetik is correct. Overall however the 240W adaptor is recommended for better system stability.

I'm also having a problem in which my battery does not charge (originally thought it was the battery, so I bought a new one and the problem persists). I've read that if the chip inside the brick on a Dell PSU is broken, it won't charge the battery. So therefore, that is why I am purchasing a new PSU, in hopes that it will both 1) charge my battery and 2) give my laptop a larger power supply to run more stable.
