    From Dell FAQ:

I chose Dell Driver Download Manager but now I no longer want to use it, what do I do?

To make the pop up appear again so you can chose to download via the browser empty the cookies for your internet browser. Choose the second option for Internet Browser and ensure the remember by selection box is ticked on the bottom right of the pop up.

    Also:

Can I remove the Dell Driver Download Manager if I no longer want to use it?

Yes, the Dell Driver Download Manager can be uninstalled like any normal application in Windows.

    See if this works.

This is not an accurate test for a system. All the AW systems and even a couple old XPS systems throttle of sort under this load. It is unnatural.

Also I must again say this is not the throttle fix we are waiting for.

However its really nice to see that there is finally an official Dell new nVidia driver :)

i'd be happy if throttling just did not occur in rl situations. problem is, even with a fix, i think i'll still be paranoid.

    FYI search for this :-

    Product Change Notification 110018 - 00 - Intel

to find an intel document on the main reason for update, (unless of course youtube is really really important to Alienware :) )

I agree with this as well. I believe there are ways to stress test the system with out doing the grueling Fur+prime combo.. with A06 I can get the systems to throttle with just fur. I think fur alone is a good synthtest.

I am on the hunt for more games and synths that trigger it.

The only time I will EVER update my bios is when they include a disable Stealthmode button option. I frikin HATE stealth mode. On battery its a must, but why even have it as an option whilst plugged in? :(

lol, and when on battery if you try it, a message comes up saying "Stealth mode not support on battery" ^^

To be honest I dont understand the point of it. I just use windows power management.

This brings an idea to mind. I could extend my alienware stealth indicator, to automatically turn off stealth mode if it gets enabled...

I have noticed something guys... My fans seem to be coming on less often. The whole system sounds quieter. I don't know if they upped the threshold for when the fans come on or what but they are definitely less active.

I think my GPU temps are lower as well. <45 degrees Celsius idle/surfing the web and watching videos.

I'm still on A05 bios, didn't see any good reason to update to A06; however, I find that changing windows power settings from Balanced to Max Performance definitely increases fan noise - obviously CPU & GPU are running at higher clock speeds.

Are you certain you haven't dropped/changed your power management options? If so, this may be a good reason to update bios as laptop should theorotically last longer on battery power.

Seems like the EC update fixed the issues where the fans would sometimes start at full-blast for quite some time. Update process also went very smoothly. I don't know why some of you feel that updating is a bad thing just because it doesn't fix the problem you're experiencing. Eventually you're going to fall so far behind that you'll need to install in increments, just like these new BIOS updates require you to have A02 or newer.

is it too much of a stretch to make it launch an application/script of choice as well as auto turn off stealth?
this would actually make that button useful for something else we may want, like a media player or something.

I had to use F2 to go into the BIOS, confirm the CD drive was before the HDD in the boot order, then save and exit. After that, it booted fine from the CD. F12 did not work for me either.

The Revelator is right. It sometimes just doesn't work however are you sure that you burned "content" of the ISO to disk, NOT the ISO file itself?

    Drivers & Downloads

Yes you can use a USB/flash disk to update BIOS.
Are you extracting content of the ISO file or just burning the ISO?

That's it, you're ready to update. Just boot and flash.

The readme file on your boot CD says this if you'll look at it:

Why are you not using one of the CDs/DVD's that you've burned? I don't know why it wouldn't work if it boots from the USB stick after you burned the .iso to it. Just go into the bios and change the boot order to put that drive first. If it boots and initiates the flash routine, it ought to work.

Have to say, you seem new to all this. Using the tried and true boot CD method would be smarter.

Sorry for double post but my system is now no longer opening I tried the power drain too.. I don't know while booting from USB it just said no operating system found :/ now it doesn't work anymore.

Nope just kidding :D Well I checked USB, when I tried booting from USB via F12, it said no operating system found on disk and told me to unplug and reboot the system. I haven't tried getting the system boot from USB via changing the boot order in BIOS yet but I'll probably burn to a CD, as there may be an issue with system not detecting "autorun" files on USB drives.

when using nero are you just droping the iso into a new cd?
you are suppose to use the " burn image" function under " recorder" menu, and select the downloaded file (and in case you are burning to dvd select dvd, otherwise its cd and you dont have to change it)

He used this procedure (taken from a prior post to him in a different thread):

"To burn the .iso file to a CD, try this:

    1. Insert a blank CD in slot drive (close any autorun box that appears)
    2. Go to Start|All Programs|Nero|Nero 9 and run Nero Express Essentials
    3. In the left column, select "Image, Project, Copy" (bottom choice)
    4. In the main Window, select 'Disc Image or Saved Project" (bottom choice)
    5. In the popup window, select the file "M15x BIOS A07.iso" downloaded from Dell and click "Open"
    6. In the Burn Window, confirm the settings, select (check) "verify data on disc ..." and click "Burn"
    7. Follow the progress in the Burn window. When complete, the CD will eject.
    8. Exit -- you're finished."

I have used that process to burn two separate bootable CD's that were then used to successfully flash the 07 BIOS. He's burning, not copying, the .iso. I don't know whether he selected DVD, but assume so if that's what he used. If you just copy the .iso, you won't see the confirmation graphic in the readme file.

Hey, Inap, where have you been hiding? You can if you have that option. I don't on this machine, probably because I haven't installed a CD burn app. Nero 9 Essentials that ships with the M15x apparently does not add that option to the right click menu during installation. At least, it didn't on mine.

Edit: it is there, just a level down in the open with menu. Never noticed it. +Rep when it lets me. Sure makes it easier. Sorry for complicating the process. Works though.

I had issues with touchbar at first too. They were too "laggy" and buttons sometimes weren't working. After 1-2 reboots and a power drain, they started to act normal.

well i had the touch controls replaced 2 times and the mobo was just replaced, so they couldn't figure out the problem, so they are sending me a new one, since i didn't want it to go to the depot. and yes i did the power drain and cmos trick like a dozen times, and reinstalled cc and osd, but still nothing.

    Uh that sucks man..
I sometimes have problems with AFX in keyboard. White lights appear on the top section of the keyboard for less than a second than disappear when this happens I have the AFX disabled(by default. I'm not into lightning show much :D). But the issue is rare so I don't care much. Did you have something similar? I kinda feel like the touchbar and AFX issues are someway related, I no longer have the touchbar issue so I can't test much.

Mine have worked OK, except I keep turning off wireless or turning Stealth on accidentally when hitting Print Screen or Delete. Wattos thinks he can modify his Stealth utility to automatically turn Stealth off whenever it's turned on. That would be slick.
