Ok, well I've Googled this in about twelve different phrases, I CANNOT find a solution, spent hours reinstalling drivers and playing with settings. Had an issue with this before, suddenly it worked once and ever since, never again.

Connect the DP cord, HDMI cord to that, than from the laptop to my Samsung 55" LED LCD. Get perfect video on HDMI 1/DVI/PC (this was a fiasco to get the first time around as it has to be on the HDMI 1 to work properly). As far as sound, just laptop sound.

Initially tonight, it said nothing was plugged in when the cord obviously was. I updated to the 10.10 ATI drivers tonight just for the heck of it, and now the HDMI in the audio dialog window the HDMI read ready. When set to default for either or both default sound and communication playback, it reads no sound, nor does it give any. PC speakers work.

I'm just using WMP currently, nothing else. WMP is set to use what ever the default device is.

Increasingly I think more and more Microsoft should leave the media/therater scene, WMP fails, WMC fails and so does the 360 for these purposes, under the same configurations and network conditions the PS3 was flawless, where anything Microsoft related is just flat out hell.. Sigh.

Did you go into your windows control panel, into the sound settings portion and make sure you select HDMI audio as your playback device (default device)

if you do right clic on the audio icon on the right bottom of the screen, and select reproduction dispositives (or something similar) you can select the audio trough the display port
